How to download the forbidden mod?
I went to the site and downloaded it, extracted it into a new folder, but it says stuff about an about.xml .

Then, I asked people on the forum, they said to extract the downloaded folder into the mod folder, but now it wont show up in the mod menu ingame, how do I solve this?

But here is a google link. Should be the first result, I think.

If it is not showing up in the mod menu, you might have not extracted it correctly.
It could be in a folder that is in the mod folder, if you know what I mean. This could happen in the zip you are extracting had a folder that contained the actual mod folder.

The base folder for the forbidden mod has to be in the mod folder directly, it cannot be in a sub-folder.

So the RJW folder should be in ~Steam\steamapps\common\RimWorld\Mods

Well, I've been following the advice of the people on the forums, and the one guy willing to explain it to me says that I should extract the main folder ( rjw_master ) to ~Steam\steamapps\common\RimWorld\Mods, so I did that.

The folder structure should be like this:
.../Rimworld/ Mods/ rjw-master/ ... 1.4/ About/

It's like that, but theres also 1.2 and 1.3 there as well, do I get rid of those?

There's also a folder called deploy there as well.

No, don't get rid of anything. That sounds like you have it installed correctly. The game uses multi-version mods, if you are on 1.4 it will use the 1.4 folder, if you are on 1.3 it will use the 1.3 folder, etc. There will be some files in there related to git that aren't "necessary" but don't need to be deleted, it's best not to try to delete anything from inside the mod folder.

Errors in the about.xml with mods are fairly common and usually harmless. Have you actually tried playing the game to see if the mod is working?

Wouldn't you need to enable it first?
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

You enable the mods from in the game (or externally with rimpy, or by manually editing the file if you're cool).

Yeah, exactly.
The mods should show up in your mod list in the games mod menu if you have placed them correctly, and you enable them just like any other mod.

Yes. I assumed you had it placed correctly the first time which is what got you the about.xml error, and then moving it is what caused it to sop showing up? Perhaps I misread.

If your folder structure looks like how whatamidoing posted I don't know how it wouldn't be showing up in game on the mod list. You restarted the game right?

It's like that

Is it like that, though? Or is it:
.../Rimworld/ Mods/ rjw-master/ rjw-master/ ... 1.4/ About/
Because it should look like the first one whatamidoing said.

That About.xml file is important, all mods and DLCs require it to be in the right place. That might be clue. However, as Astasia says it might be harmless. Try it and see if it works anyway.
