If they're under a roof they'll be fine, overhead mountains especially.

Flash storms are local to a small area on the map, just don't send your pawns walking around in the open in that area. I don't think I've ever had a flash storm be an issue in the game, outside of setting forest fires. I'd be willing to bet they are coded to target an area away from your base and colonists, and they tend to be over before anyone can wander into that area.

Maybe I have just been unlucky then. I have had my pawns and livestock struck by lightning numerous times. I have even had my own caravans struck by lightning while exiting my base. I am pretty sure that I even had one pawn struck TWICE by lightning during a single flash storm.

I've had a handful of cases where colonists/animals were struck by lightning during normal storms. Every time I've had a flash storm though it's been in a remote location of my map and I've never had anyone over there.

That’s what I always thought, catch is I have a mining rig that’s somewhat far (same tile obviously) from my main base and the flash storms hit there all the time lol.

Looks like I’m gonna need a roof cause if I bbq my 1 miner in the colony that is good I’m gonna be pissed:KScared:

The lightning strikes could have easily been during normal storms. I just thought "how unlucky" my pawn was to be struck a second time while limping back to my base. He never made it home.

The chances of your miner being killed from a lightning strike is pretty much nil (well I don't recall having a pawn killed by a single shot) and just because they are outdoors does not mean they will be struck. The only real threat that flashstorms pose is the fires they start.
