That being said, you DEFINITELY need the mod frameratecontrol and to be careful of mods that arent just XML.
I wouldnt say "never".
I can DEFINITELY see open world style multiplayer with unmodded being a thing Ludeon adds in the future. Remember, if a mod can do it then the developer can do it better.
But i cant see zenriths multiplayer being official. Its not like it goes against the games core design or anything, its just a thousand times more finicky.
Sure, with open General Chat and no moderators, too, I bet! Won't that be great??
"No, it wasn't great," said the Narrator in Morgan Freeman's voice.
Yeah, I would also like to know what magical divining spells you have used to glean this information, since nothing that has been said by the Dev team or Tynan has suggested that it is ever coming to the game at all.
Citation definitely needed.

You know what this means, lads?
Half-Life 3 confirmed!
They subscribed to Steam's matchmaking API for online services sometime last year... or the year before, I forget. (It was before the latest DLC, for sure.) I haven't checked to see if they've signed up for anything else since then.
So, it's not a secret that they were at least "acting like" they were developing an online multiplayer component. There's not a lot of use for those products other than that unless they wanted to maybe work on some other online tie-in, which wouldn't make any sense.
It would make sense if they were working on another game product that's not associated with Rimworld, though.
Either way? There's an almost smoking gun example of why many think it's likely they're at least thinking about it.

"Anonymous Dedicated Server Comp"
So, maybe they're trying to tie-in player-run multiplayer games via Steam and Steam's matchmaking/online API? /shrug
Or, it's all just a red herring and they're planning on jumping in bed with Games Workshop and FunPop?
Someone in this thread had mentioned that a modder for a multiplayer mod was hired at one point, so that supports the idea that multiplayer may be a feature in an update or a new DLC (Hopefully it's not the latter though).
