Do the enemies stack on top of eachother when going through the maze ? If they do, try to put a unpowered turret three squares below your white sandbag where the doors are, I don't know if they can see it through three doors, if they don't you might want to put a door between the sandbag and the turret, but what it does is makes them go "in combat" early on (because they "see" a turret through the closed door") and they take one square each (just like when you draft your pawns and they can't occupy the same tile anymore), so each of them will line up at the entrance of the box until they can enter instead of stack and enter all at once. You could also make sure the distance between your line of fire and the spot where they leave the maze is exactly the same as the maximum range of the weapon you're using.

I believe lining up traps like that leads your pawns to sometimes activate them when walking over them, so it's not ideal (plus it's expensive)

If all else fails and you just want something optimal, give a shot at the singularity killbox, if you have enough shotgun firepower the enemy simply can't get to you nor take shots at you, even on max difficulty

Google "singularity killbox".

If you want to lay traps without springing them, make the corridor two-tiles wide and alternate between traps and fences.

lx l
l -l
lx l
l -l

"l" is the wall, x is the trap, - is a fence. When repairing the traps, your pawns will take the safe path around the trap, but when walking to your base, the enemy will always try to avoid the fences and walk on the traps

Theres alot to consider when setting up a base depending on how safe ive looked at a tonne of different vids including the singularity killing box
Heres the singualrity

But honestly alot of vids only cover general raids they dont deal with mechs and such i think this guy probably was the best inspo

Also i recommend looking into wealth management it messed me up when i built jade and gold beds and statues but stilla rmed my guys with clubs in one of my earlier runs

Currently ive gone frugal with most of my base still stone and gone double turret but ive been considering putting auto doors in front of them and lock up when ♥♥♥♥ hits the fan i can fall back to a 3 man killing melee box which i did im my last run is very successful.

Some things i go for, are mountain coastal bases and set my base opposite to the coast so i dont need to worry about general raids just drop ins on one side. And sappers go towards beds so i have mine surrounded by turrets, and if you have tunneller with large underground farms just setup a defence at one end that deals with infestations

If your going to use killboxes you might as well just disable raids. There more shame in cheating the system than just disableing the threat.

Or you can disable construction since you find things like walls to be OP. Take naked brutality to mean just that...

They don't stop all types of raids though. That is a silly comment. They are also the only way to play when not caring about your wealth build up. It's part of the game...

More general advice: Have the raid enter in the middle of the wall, that way the pawns stationed at the bottom of your defense aren't further away. Try to curve the left wall as well, so that the range for everyone is about the same.

Remove the last trap and add a sandbag, currently the final sandbag works as cover for those entering.

Unmodded, the heavy smg is roughly the best weapon for most pawns. Give everyone one, then make sure the enemy enters at maximum effective range.

Make sure someone has EMP grenades/have them nearby, possibly 2, so you can deal with mechanoids easily.

At the moment you have optimal defense for 5 pawns (behind a wall with cover besides it). Make a bigger killbox, so more defenders are optimally protected.

The turrets explode when killed, make sure they're not close enough to harm your pawns.
