85€ for the whole game?
I dont own the game, but im thinking to buy it. Just one question: Did they hire a EA guy for the pricing, or what is going on with the absolutely crazy pricetag?

The base game alone offers hundreds of hours of very well fun. This was the full game for a long time and still had overwhelmingly positive ratings and tons of playtime hours in it.

The DLC are mediocre to good but aren't necessary, try the base and then buy what you like if you like the base game.

Also 85 bucks for 1 game and 3 DLC being pricey? Especially given the hours of actual fun you can have with it? EA asks the same for a 20-30 hours of washed out fun, get real dude.

Your username checks out though, I am thinking just that reading your post.

The Witcher 3. +100h in and still not done. Bought it for 20€ (all of it). Now its even cheaper. Just got a facelift Update, for free. And thats a AAA game. In comparison this is 2D only, something you could play on any phone. I realy dont see the value.

Shoudnt they make something thats been released a long long time even cheaper, instead of more expensive?

Its a developer that values its game unlike the EA ♥♥♥♥♥ that crap out a new "AAA" game every year and then put it on sale for a few bucks because noone wants to play it.

The Royalty DLC is kind of superficial so you won't lose much if you skip it. Ideology and Biotech are worth it in my opinion.

Its very recommended to start off with just the base game. I would play that until you get a good feel for the game and afterwards watch some streams that have the full DLC to see if anything seems worth the price to you.

Keep in mind much thats in the DLCs are in mods, though not everything.

Royalty is amazing and I honestly don't get why people put it down. I feel people who complain about it never gets far enough into the psycasting and tries the amazing utility and combat related spells.

Either way, just buy the base game first. The base game is the full game, DLC is extra. It's an experience that rivals Witcher 3 in hours.

First, this game is a late bloomer. Its facing its prime time right now. It didnt have any AD, just a fan base (myself included) that keep game alive since alpha (2013-2014). Very different from AAA games, that receive massive ADs pre lauching. So, out with your argument of long time release.
Second, base game is a full game. I have almost 4k hour, and 2.5k was in the base game. Now, it has a reasonable price. U dont buy The Sims with all available DLC in one purchase, so, dont do the same with RW. Pick it, and if u dont like, pass the DLC.
And, most important, The majority of AAA games offer 30-50 hours of gameplay. Go look in RW base game steam base and look the time spent os majority of reviwers. The avarage time played sky rocket AAA titles.
And, finally, trust me, RW with all DLC worth every F penny.

Why make it cheaper, if they are continuing to add and expand to it? Normally extras, cost extra.

Rimworld is a good game, but realistically for the amount of work put in probably its a bit to pricey. Ludeon studion has 5 employees, right? There are games where 100 people work for multiple years.
Hykal Dec 29, 2022 @ 9:42am
It's been increased to 8 or 10 last I heard but don't quote me on that.

The amount of employees is kinda irrelevant. The reason why AAA games can do constant discounts and sales is because they can afford it. Ludeon is a smaller studio and can't.

The base game is the whole game. The DLCs are extras. The game without the DLC is a complete game and you can still get hundreds of hours of play out of it. The DLCs add significant content and mechanics, so the comparison to EA is either ignorant or dishonest.

lmao imagine paying 85€ for a phone game
Veylox Dec 29, 2022 @ 9:49am
The witcher 3 was way more expensive than Rimworld at full price, you only bought it so cheap because it doesn't sell anymore and has permanent -90% sales. Plus 100h is laughably low compared to Rimworld, people are not joking when they tell you "several hundreds", a lot of us are sitting at 400+ and have yet to finish a single game, and I'm not talking about the type of lunatics that want to collect every goodie and that let their game run while they do nothing to bloat numbers, I'm talking 400+ hours of actual gameplay.

The game could cost 200 and it would still be worth it from an investment / return point of view. But i'll agree on one thing ; a lot of that near-infinite length comes from the base game + mods, making the DLC clearly pricey and here for the devs to make a little more money off of a really special game. It comes down to whether or not you want to show appreciation. Do buy the base game, it's definitely worth it and not 80 bucks by any means, and I suspect if you stick with it past the learning curve the pricey DLCs will eventually feel like the money's deserved anyway

you think Rimworld could run on a phone? are you new to gaming or something? really? just because something is 2d doesnt mean it can "easily run on a phone" theres cpu intensive complex calculations going on behind the scenes to simulate a variety of aspects of a world, way more than a phone could ever handle lol. ill bet you think dwarf fortress can just run on a phone too, totally no cpu intensive simulated world going on there -rolls eyes-
