Probably a Bug: Still sterile after overriding with xenogerm fertile
Hi, I have this save scum game where my lead colonist was born sterile, and now after reaching the peak she wants to leave a descended that is even better than her, so I bought a fertile gene pack and installed it. it now says her fertility is 200% but I still can't extract an ovum with the operations tab saying she is sterile. I have the added metabolism cost of the new germ too now, so It's extra vexxing. I think I'll fix this in dev mode but would prefer to wait for a hotfix, if this is a real bug.

In your case "Sterile" is a geneline gene that cannot be removed and multiplies fertility by 0.
"Fertile" is a xenogene that multiplies fertility by 2.
The base fertility is 1.

1*2*0 = 0

So your fertility is stuck at 0 forever, since any fertility boost would be multiplicative.

Probably a mathematic oversight by the devs and not a bug.

Damn, the description of 'sterile' is misleading enough as is, now if it still applies it would really suck. the bio does say it is overriden though, and the description does say a fertility of 200, so I wonder if the operations menu is reading a flag it's supposed to ignore.

Usually a xenogene is supposed to overwrite an incompatible germline gene. For example if your pawn is naturally delicate and you give them robust, the delicate will be disabled.

For some reason "Fertile" and "Sterile" are not considered to be incompatible, so one will not override the other. And since "Sterile" is a multiplicative of 0, it will always override everything.

I think the issue is based on the idea that sterile can come from surgery as well... as you can sterilize a fertile pawn, without overriding the fertile gene, the game has to have a way for both to exist at the same time.

Too bad you can't use a surgery to restore fertility (or healer mech, or biosculptor pod, etc.)

Honestly I think the biggest oversight is not being allowed to genetically modify ova and embryos. We can perfectly modify the entirety of an adult's somatic cells- technology we don't quite have in the real world. But we can't edit or replace a zygote's DNA- technology we've had in the real world for quite some time. I suppose Rimworld genetic engineering technology is lost in time and they only have schematics that they can't reverse engineer.

Out of curiosity, what is said colonist's age?
