Killing a sacred animal with a mortar doesn't incur unhappiness
It should.

My neighbor got pretty sad when I killed her dog with a mortar last week.

Pretty sure you can just use molotovs or any other fire/heat for the same result. Same with the precepts that forbid harming/cutting trees. It's an RP challenge so I don't think the dev is overly concerned with aggressive anti-exploit checks. Tracking the source of fire as it spreads and constantly updates is too much of a performance drain I think, that's why the game still can't distinguish between a natural fire or a player created fire killing NPCs for example.

Even more basic you could probably stick them in a freezer or heater and kill them that way, without risking destroying the corpse.

It happened organically, not as an exploit. Firing a mortar at mechanoids hit a sacred animal. The colonists didn't care. I felt that was worse gameplay than if they were made unhappy by it, which would also make more sense. I want to be punished for such oversights. It makes the game more interesting.

I'm asking for the change in the interest of improving the game for my sake, not to fix an exploit.

Who are you asking then? The developers pretty much never read these forums. You can try submitting a bug report on the official forums or discord, I'm just saying they are aware of the behavior and probably aren't going to change it. It's worked the way it has going on 2 years now.

is OP questioning the divine decission that was made by the sacred creature to be exactly were it was when the mortar shell, fired at an unholy machine, hit it?

it was the will of the Rim Gods that this sacred Creature blessed your colony with its sacrifice against the unholy mechanoids.

i don't even play with this sacred creature nonsense (everything that moves on 4 legs or lays eggs is potential food)... and even i can make up a RP explanation for why your colonists weren't sad that you killed a holy rabbit while batteling with mechs.

take it as an opportunity, put the dead thing in a freezer, build a tomb, put the remains in there.. venerate it... done.

Yeah, where do I report a bug? Seems like an obvious thing to change.
