Tortured artist without torturing
Asking for any ideas how to make tortured artist generate inspirations without torturing him on purpose - i find it quite disturbing to force my colonist eat crappy food and live in crappy conditions.

If there is not any (which is sad), does GOURMAD trait proc the tortured artist bonus ? I might character edit this trait.
Thanks

Without directly torturing your artist pawn, use character editor to make them ... difficult. Combine traits with mood reductions, depressive and all that. Anything that raises the mood break threshold would help too. Even with the same conditions as other pawns they'll be grumpy.

Gourmand should work? Never tried it.

Additionally, psycasters using Word of Inspiration on your artist will occasionally grant you inspired creativity. By mid game, it's not too difficult to have 2-3 casters and you're able to afford to keep one charging specifically for inspirations/farskipping etc.

Keep in mind they'll still receive other kinds, which you must use up or wait out before trying again. Certain inspirations require a minimum skill - inspired taming requires at least 3 in Animal, inspired recruitment requires at least 3 Social etc, so if you're lucky with how your torture artist rolled and you neglect improving their other skills, you can increase the chance you'll get the right inspiration.

Biotech can also help with this, as implanting bad/awful skill genes can lower the minimum skill in question until the associated inspiration is removed from the potential pool.

Double depressive, greedy/jealous and neurotic(or other in that mental tree) should do it.

If you're feeding your pawns lavish meals that might be hard to compensate for, but if you're willing to accept "subpar" instead of crappy conditions you can do it. If your colony is wealthy, the pawn has a mediocre bedroom (with or without constantly disturbed sleep), a special role from the ideology (raising their expectations), a lot of menial labor (somebody's got to haul that slag), and spends time in an ugly environment they should be pretty close to the break point. You can also deny them rec, make them go outside in the dark, and of course, make them hungry to push them over the edge. If you want to character edit traits, depressive and/or neurotic will do the trick with the added bonus of being thematic. I wouldn't recommend gourmand as it doesn't hurt mood unless you're starving them and triggers food binges randomly.

Oh come on, it's in the trait name. He likes it ;] Besides, you don't really have to be extra cruel, little things should do the trick.

Make him wear the torture crown (in fact, make him wear all the clothes manually, for the "forced" condition, and if they are below 50% durability and maybe tainted it will help too ;] ), and set up AC in his room a bit too high. Zone him inside for some cabin fever and maybe restrict access to recreation a bit.

If you need something more potent, addiction withdrawal should work ;]

I vote for addiction withdrawal.

Alcoholism adds character! (and fits in with the tortured artist trope)

But from Rp point of view its like "ok we dont let you drink more so you make fine art".

Fear and Hunger has a god with the Tortured Soul.
He was a tortured artist that believed true art could only be brought about by extreme suffering, so he began torturing himself and others for it. When he ascended to godhood, he became disfigured and used his own torn skin as a skirt.

Maybe that could give you some RP inspiration?
