Do Highmate ever attack your base?
The only way I have been able to get highmate genes is from harvesting them from political prisoners I am looking after (empire event). I know they are not capable of violence, but has anyone ever seen them in raiding parties, for sale as slaves or any other method of obtaining one aside from picking them at the scenario start. They have some wonderful genes but I really don't want one of my starting pawns to not be able to pick up a weapon and defend the base.

None in factions that I can see in the XML files.

Slaves have a 3% chance of being highmates though.

No.
How would that happen anyway? Aren't they incapable of violence?
I've yet to see any Highmates and the only Sanguophage I had was afraid of the dark and left the colony o.O

OK thanks, I don't know how to check the XML files so I was going on personal exp.

Since you can check the files, can you see if the "recluse" trait that the mechinator starts off with will give you a debuff if you have too many colonists, or if the buff is eliminated down to 0 as you gain more colonists?

I have had 3 separate Sanguophage "recruitment" events. Twice I have had the ability to call down a ship and capture one (yes you can not recruit it, but it can be used for gene harvesting or to turn one of your own over). And the other time I had 4 of them arrive for a ritual and one decided to stay voluntarily.

I wasn't sure about that "incapable of violence" would matter, as I have pawns who were crippled so badly as to be almost incapable of violence attack me many times.

Because of the 'incapable of violence' they can only show up as guests, beggars, quest prisoners, slaves, and visitors. This makes them one of the rarest xenotypes, harder to get ahold of than sanguophages by far.

I have gone to war in order to keep a quest prisoner highmate before, they're that valuable.

There's 4 stages: alone, small group, crowded, and very crowded. Alone is +12, small is +6, crowded is -4, and very crowded is -8.

Thanks, out the window goes my solo mech guy playthrough. I like to go from a rough start to a literal city, but a -8 mood debuff stacking on the Supreme expectations -12 would be a killer.

i see them all the time with beggar events or refuges comming to me you can also use the gene editor at start to give one pawn the genes you want highmates are not a "race " after all its all xenogenes so it does not matter if you change them at start.

Have the happiest pawn in your colony recieve a Psychic harmonizer. You could also add in a Joywire, be warned that a pawn with a Joywire will suffer a permanent 30%- in consciousness.

It looks like I will be examining the beggars and refugees more closely for potential "forced recruitment" rather than just as an easy source of burger meat.

Beggars serve some purposes:
Capture some of them for slavery (they rarely have good fighting skills)
Capture them for later execution, duels, etc
Kill them to gain more 🍖.
