There is actually no difference between the two, but the dumping stockpile comes with the storage settings to accept corpses, metal slag, and rock chunks.
One other thing, make sure whichever colonist you are attempting to haul has access (via zones) to both the corpse and the stockpile.
If you've set shelves to accept corpses but not the storage area the shelves are in then the game blocks the shelves by proxy.
I don't know what this is, I know the game was working the way it should before, and 90% sure when I had 'Common Sense' installed. I'll try removing that mod and see if it helps.
Not sure what problem you think you are having, but it's probably unrelated to this 7 year old thread.
Shelves can't store large corpses, and they are indeed their own independent storage zone. You can link shelves together though.
