The issue
1) colonist died
2) colonist remains in the colonist bar
3) I have no idea how to remove him from there

Nevermind, it just took some time for dead colonist to disappear from list.

It is not time based, you must either bury them or burn the corpse.

I did bury my colonist and he lingered in the bar for a few more minutes before disappearing.

is totally true, do take into account the time it takes to carry the body to the grave and bury it since colonists usually are not nice enough to die 2 feet from the local graveyard.

I am quite certain that I overseed burial of said colonist, to memorise where exactly he is to rest, but I assume that mistake is possible.

Sly Fly is correct, the colonist remains on the bar for a short while after buried and then disappears by itself.

maybe thats true if you manage to bury them within 1 minute or so of their death, i can believe there is a small default delay to allow you to check their deaths, but outside of that small grace period it goes away the moment you bury them.

If you right click on the dead colonist in the bar shouldn't there be a option to remove it ?

Another colonist just died.

Interesting moment, when corpse of colonist is eaten without butchering it - it disappears from bar immideatly.
