Space Refugees starving to death
I pick them up and nurse them back to health. Once they are on their feet they just keep wandering around until they starve to death. Do I miss anything here?

Be sure to set someone to the Warden job. That person will feed yer prisoners as well as try and recruit them if you have em set for recruitment.

Works only if u capture him/her. If u rescue, your doctor will feed him. And afaik theydont eat you food, only if your doc feeding them.

To op: Tbh never experienced this weird thing. Im patch them, feed them and if they want they join. Or leave the map.

The doctors ignore them once they are healthy again and they do not seem to want to leave the place.

Set someone to work as yer WARDEN in the work tab. This person will feed, recruit/release prisoners. To recruit/release you first need a WARDEN, then click the prisoner tab and choose from the options presented. Be sure to have the prisoners meal settings set to food you have as well.

Why are you rescuing them then?
Capture and handle them as you do to raiders.

RESCUE is not the same as CAPTURE, if someone is rescued they might join and are only treated by doctors which allows you to possibly recruit neutral/friendly pawns without annoying their faction.

It can also be faster than capturing and recruiting via warden, as to why the no-faction pawns loiter around when healed I don't know but they might as well be captured at that point.

Check you have someone as warden.
Check their food privileges.
Check you have food.

I'm having a similar problem, I had a cryosleep ship crash with one survivor, I rescued him and he decided to leave, except he hasn't, he just wanders around my base and eats food when he's hungry and he has a Guest tab instead of a prisoner tab

im gonna be honest, i believe this is an issue with vanilla ai, as i dont recall ever having this exact promblem in a long time. i recommend the mod "common sense", maybe it doesn't fix this particular issue but it does help a LOT and you'll love it forever.

Somthing I have noticed that the pawn is the sister of one of my colonists so maybe thats why he is staying around

i had the same problem, in my case i had the locks mod and solved unlocking the doors, they wouldnt use any doors that werent fully unlocked

me too , i also had a spacerefugee that was stuck in my base and i used locks mod , unlocking didnt help , but when i removed the doors he did finally leave
