What happens if you put something in front of a cooler's exhaust?
The game won't allow me to build a cooler if there's something occupying the exhaust square (the hot end). But I've built objects on the exhaust square AFTER the cooler's been built.

Does anyone if this reduces the effectiveness of a cooler if the exhaust gets blocked?

No it doesn't unless you only have one square for the exhaust it wouldn't do anything

i believe you have to have your cooler exhaust going somewhere outside cant exhaust to heat a room if that's what u were trying to do.

You can. In fact you can set a heat trap near your entrance with a dummy cooler or two... ;)

I vent my cooler inside all the time on ice sheet embarks. Wasted heat isn't smart when it's -97F outside.

Do you even need a cooler on ice sheet? couldn't you just make a vent to the outside?

Technically no, you don't need them, but on ice sheets I always dig into a mountain. I don't like vents or coolers on the outside then because some clever raider will always attack it.

I accidentally killed off my colony by putting 3 coolers all venting the exhaust into the room with my medical beds :steamsalty: live and learn xD

Hey, Thermotherapy™ is good for relaxing those muscles at the end of the day...

Okay, if you block the exhausts with an "unwalkable" structure (e.g. a wood-fueled power generator), I think the cooler stops working. I built a wood-fueled power generator in front of the exhausts of coolers for my freezer, and the freezer warmed up and my food decomposed.

For cave colonies in warmer climates, I vent cooler exhaust to the outside world. But to protect the cooler from sneaky raiders who want to come in through the pantry, I put some walls about 2 squares away from exhaust and wall it off. Usually double walled. Make sure you set that space to no roof or you will have a heat buildup problem, even though it's in an inaccessible space. That could impact the cooler.

Yeah I vent outside and surround the exhaust area with walls...anyone know the smallest space they can vent outside into thats walled and still work?

I usually give it 3 spaces.
