Best way to keep walk in freezer cold?
Hi all, new the game and having a blast.

I have made a walk in freezer room and a walk in refrigerator room (one -40 for frozen meat, the other -10 for refrigeration). I have a cooling unit, connected to power etc, all is golden. However, whenever one of my colonists enter the room (to put in or take out food which is often) the temperature skyrockets at least 20 or so degress (it is 20 degrees outside).

It makes it hard to keep rooms at the temp I want when every entry dramatically raises the temp. Is there any tips on how to keep rooms cooler when people enter? Perhaps more cooling units? (have 1 per room)

Try two units, also make an airlock style entrance to stop temp change, dont have it to straight outside, double thick walls also.
And as a last -5 will freeze
You could make a cooler that keeps a solid 0 degrees before you enter the -40 freezer.
Like a cooled entrance to the freezer.
Good luck :D
I create a 2x wide walk-in, 2 doors, small amount of walking space and 2 more doors. This way the cold doesn't go out the first door. Once the space gets bigger you may have to add another freezer or just lower your existing one to counter the heat outside. During the heat I had to lower mine to -30 just to keep it slightly below freezing but it worked fine, takes a little bit to cool down.

A temp of -1C is enough to freeze anything.
Refrigeration is below 10C, I believe.
Make sure you use a sluice setup for the entrance to any cooling room. This helps with the loss of temp when doors are opened.
It also helps if you store the meals, beers and such in that sluice, to stop people from continiously opening the door to the actual freezer room. So if you make the sluice big enough to fit a bunch of meals and beers, only the haulers and cooks actually go into the freezer itself.
It would also help if you set up a cooler for the sluice area, too.

You can also try having two cooler units next to eachother, one set 1C above or below the other.
If they're set at -10C and -9C, they'll both start working hard if the temp isn't -9C, one will go into low power mode once -9C is reached and the other will work until -10C is reached. That way you have two coolers working when there's a large cooling difference, making cooling of a large room easier. But once -10C is reached, one is guaranteed to only require low power.
If you have two that are set at the same temp, they'll both continiously draw high power and keep flicking between high and low when the temp starts dancing between -10C and -9C.
Hope that made sense. :D

I've heard, but not confirmed, that doubling up your walls really helps isolation as well.

Once I get to about 5+ colonists, I set one to be the domestic and restrict them to the home. They get full winter gear regardless of the outdoor weather. He's #1 on cleaning and 2 priority on cooking. If I see that the meals ever go to zero, he/she will be set to 1 on cooking until it straightens out...otherwise he'll be running to cook whenver someone takes a meal. They can also double as your doctor and/or warden.

The freezer is a 14x14 (with some space taken by batteries and the chopping block, no chairs). 2 different zones, one for veggies and one for meat, and animal corpses are allowed. In the airlock room is a 3x2 with a meal dump and stove, then past that is the dining room.

Thanks all for the great feedback!

Good idea about the airlock, will set to that for both rooms. Also got 2 healers on each, helping more but no enough due to high activity so the airlock should help. Great idea bout the 1 degree difference as well.

Thanks again for all the great feedback!
