Do walls matter?
I was watching Northernlion play rimworld and in it, he said that walls matter and size matters for homes, I knew size was important and he said it was like.. 9x9 ? but he said walls matter, is this true? I tend to build in mountains and leave the walls as the rock, is that a bad idea and walls are important for quality of the room?

Yes, there should be an option on the bottom right of the screen that enables a tool that tells you things like room stats, and beauty of individual tiles. Raw rock walls be default usually have a negative modifier, while constructed walls have 0. At least it has an impact early on, but the impact is negated easily by something like a decent small statue in the room

walls have a beauty stat that count into the room overall beauty.if you have a bigger colony just use small bedrooms and make large halls for dining room and crafting.

Raw rock has a -2 beauty, stone walls have a 0 beauty. That penalty adds up on a big room.

Alright, thank you.

i think you mean bedrooms. for bedrooms it doesnt matter a lot. Colonist only get minus mood if you dont clean the mountain bedroom. you can even make it 2x1.

i make it 2x3 and put warm air via vent into it. its important to have the rooms beautifull, where your colonist are most time. they dont change mood when sleeping and large bedrooms are a disadvantage because you have to build more, increase the wealth (and enemy strengh with it) and have bigger ways to walk.

the effort to make a bedroom with a plus mood is insane. Like make it 9x9 and putting statues everywhere. Not worth

BTW: walls doesnt matter so much. Just smooth the floor and put statues inside your big rooms like dinning room or workshop. place chairs at the workshops for more comfort. Upgrading to walls is more ästhetic.

one natural wall = -2
stonebrick wall = 0
one rough mountain floor = -1 (or so)
one smooth mountain floor = +3
a good wooden statue (grande) = +355 (<= the winner)

Built walls also mean you can build conduits within them. Exposed conduits are a negative beauty item.

Yeah, build walls for your mountain homes. Increased beauty (-2 per block of exposed mountain wall), the ability to hide ugly power conduits inside walls, increasing beauty and eliminating the chance of them getting destroyed/caught on fire in fights. They'll also increase your defenses in the event of sappers trying to dig through the mountain: walls can be repaired, regular stone cannot.
