I heard that the animals in a tropical forest are more hostile, while temperate are more nuetral. I'm also sure that the heat level will be slightly higher in the jungle, since it would be closer to the equator. But I could be wrong. I'd like to know like you, so hopefully someone sees this discussion and can provide that

The temperate forest is considered to be the easiest of the biomes to start in overall followed by the jungle. It's best to describe the two by the differences between them, starting with the climate.

You rarely spend long periods of time (maybe 5-6 days at most, not counting heatwves or coldsnaps) in either end of the temperature scale (too hot or too cold) in the temperate forest. This makes it less dangerous for your colonist to go outside if they aren't dressed approapriately, making temperature more of a mood issue then a health one. In comparison, the jungles are overall hotter and therefore you might have heat stroke problems during the summer months, requiring coolers.

In terms of animals, the jungle is just slightly more dangerous, mainly because you now have to deal with the added presence of snakes and panthers in the jungle but it's pretty easy to avoid them.

The final major difference between the temperate forest and the jungle are the diseases. The jungle not only has more types of diseases but they also happen more often as well. You will find yourself in situations where your colonists may have just successfully beaten a flu outbreak only for a few minutes later for half of them to also catch malaria, the plague, or sleeping sickness. This forces you to have a good medicine supply if you want your people to survive where having that much medicine isn't an absolute necessity in the temperate forest.
