Possible bug with the Component Assembly Bench
I have a couple colonists with a moderately high crafting skill that will not make components. When I right click on the bench there is no option to prioritize the task. It doesn't even say their skill is too low like everyone else. There's just nothing. I have one colonist that will make components so my game isn't sunk but I find it weird that the other 2 have a higher crafting skill but won't craft them. They will do other crafting tasks though. Is there other requirements needed that are not listed or is this a bug? I can't find any info about it on the wiki.

Did you perhaps set the lower bound of the skill gate too high?

Is it a smithing skill instead of crafting? Check the bill or bill details window to see minimum skill required.

I checked the bill and it's definately crafting. It requires crafting 10 to be precise. But in any case smithing is based off of the crafting skill so it wouldn't matter. I have smithing, tailoring, and crafting enabled on all 3 of the colonists in question but two of them won't use the component assembly bench.

Yeah, I was more talking about having it enabled or not. But you do, so I guess that isn't the issue. My next guess would be zones, both for the bench and any stockpiles related to the input or output of the bill.

Honestly I'm not sure what you are talking about. I have no mods installed and I haven't reconfigured anything from default. But the one guy I have that can craft components has a lower skill level than the other two so logically that wouldn't fit.

BTW... I tried setting the manual priority of crafting to 1 and making sure that the component assembly bench was the only crafting bill available and they still went and did other things. It's like the bench isn't there for them. The colonist are all people I gained after the initial start, although I can't remember if they were recruited or just joined spontaniously.

He is talking about the skill slider in the bill details. It is a slider that lets you adjust both the min and max skill of a pawn doing that particular bill.

I'm running everything on default with no mods so I'm not sure how that relates. But apparently one of my colonists have no problem accessing the materials and bench. Why would the other 2 not be able to? I have one large stockpile for slag and steel and another one right next to it for components and other small quantity metals. Both are accessable and the materials are all marked as available. As far as the bench, does it have a zone? I just started playing this game last week so I probably haven't learned some of the finer points. Is there something somewhere I can check for additional settings?

OH! I didn't even notice there was one but I'll check it.
I figured it out. I feel really really dumb. Apparently the bench was tagged as having someone already working on it so it disabled the option for the other 2. On other tasks it shows the option but it's greyed out saying someone else is already queued so I expected the same here. Maybe it doesn't do that for workbenches. I'll have to pay more attention and see. But thank you for your assistance anyway. I learned a couple things so I guess it wasn't a waste.

It is very dumb that once someone starts crafting a component, nobody else is able to finish that job except that person. In my case someone started crafting a component only for that person to die. It was still tagged as that person long afterwards. I had to delete the job disconnect it from power and turn it on again, for someone else to finally be able to work it again. It is beyond frustrating dealing with some of the micromanagement in this game. Just getting somebody to work a certain job is infuriating. :steamfacepalm:

I also confirmed, once i had a guy start making the component his only job was crafting. He started the component then proceeded to go idle. It was only until I turned smithing on did he go and finish the job. This table is really screwed up.

So I've faced the same problem, but enabling smithing didn't help.
I have 2 crafters with the skill > 10, one is working during the day, another during the night.
However the second one don't do componets, no matter how I try. Right-clicking on bench doesn't even show the menu

Luckily I've found unobvious (for me) solution, if you make another bill FOR THE SAME COMPONENT, the other guy will work on it

I have a similar bug but with construction. I have 3 people set to priority 1 for construction but they won't build anymore. I can't tell them to build something either. I right click on the item but no commands pop up. My fourth person asigned to construction can build and the popup window appears when I click the items.
