Putting food in cold storage?

I tried to designate a room where colonists would put perishable food but they just plonk stuff randomly in the general stockpile area. How do I specify them putting it in a cold storage region?

Change the stockpile settings so that food is not allowed in the general stockpile (or any other), and that only food is allowed in the freezer.

Or instead make your general store 'normal' priority and your cold store 'important' priority.
