Feeding Animals
I have a very large amount of chickens that I like to use for eggs and meat but they keep eating all of my simple meals. What is the best raw food to grow specifically to feed them?

I believe they eat Hay. Look in the 'i' info button for the animal and you will see what they can and can not eat. If they eat hay, that is by far the best. It stacks better is very easy to grow a lot of it.

From what I've seen, your best bet is to set up a specific "animals allowed" zone for the animals (in my case, pigs) and have it overlap with a special storage area containing the type of food that they like to eat (in my case, kibble). That way they'll never go into your normal food storage area, and won't eat your more valuable foodstuffs.

I'd love to see something like a feeding trough added to the game, though. It would be nice to have an object that could be auto-refilled, specifically for animals to eat out of.

Some mods had dog bowls and the like back in A12 and earlier I think, but they never really got the job done I don't think. I suspect a change in vanilla game would be needed for something like that to work. Which by the way HoroSaga, is a great idea. You should consider heading over to the suggestion forum on ludeon and posting that there.

I set up a kibble or hay only stockpile that is above normal priority and a bigger one that is normal priority. The dogs and bears then keep the cattle and chickens fed (as well as themselves).
