Colonists refusing to build rooves
I have all the areas set to allow rooves, have several colonists set to construct as priotiy 1 and have fully complete rooms.
Iv even tryed forcing them to build it and they will do the one patch and then bugger off to do something else.

maybe the rooms to big and needs a support. I've also noticed that at times the ai just doesn't feel like it.

There are a few things that come into play when colonist build roofs:

1) Does the roof have support. A roof will not be fully built in a room that is more then 11 blocks between two parallel sides. If that distance is more then that, then you will only get a partial roof around everywhere but the position where it lacks enough support

2) Roof construction is a low priority. By this, I mean that the construction job, like man other jobs, break down either further into more levels:

- wall construction
- structure cosntruction
- furniture construction
- power line construction
- roof construction

These are just some of the examples of what actually constitutes the construction field and roof making is usually dead last after all other construction related jobs are finished. That's why you are most likely seeing them prioritize building one section and going off to do something else.

If your construct priority is 1 and your colonist buggers off to do something else, chances are you have other priorities also set as 1.

If you can force them to build the roof, the problem is not lack of wall support.

Turns out they really really needed to look at some flowers before doing the roof. I kinda figured it would be the number one priority after building walls.

might be worth looking at the Restrict tab. Rimworld defaults sechdule of the day between Sleep and Anything. During Anything, colonists will fulfill their needs as they see fit, they will choose to do some work and then choose not to do work and goof off to feel happy.

If you haven't already, assign some of the hours of the day for colonist's to do "Work" during the Work hours colonists are very unlikely to stray away from job related tasks.

Colonist 1: "omg omg omg, look at these flowers!"
Colonist 2: "Yeah. great....flowers. How about we get this roof built?"
Colonist 3: *Glancing wearily in the distance* Uh oh guys, we got clouds rolling in, means rain is coming."
Colonist 2: "♥♥♥♥! Lets get this roof done, NOW!"
Colonist 1: "But....ummm....these flowers!"
Colonist 3: *glances towards Colonist 1* Oh damn, Colonist 2, we better look at the flowers...Colonist 1 might have a mental break if we don't".

Colonist 2 and Colonist 3 join Colonist 1 in staring at flowers instead of roofing. The rain comes in, they get soaked, sick, and die.

The flowers are still doing great, though.

Think there are a couple of things that affect building roofs.

1. Is it too large to support a roof over the whole area? If not, it will not automatically roof. You can add supports and it will automatically roof, or you can manually add the max roof the supports will handle, leaving opening(s) (and leaving status of room as unroofed)
2. Is it over 400 squares? (not 100% on the actual number, but there is one) If it is over that number, it will not automatically roof.
3. Are there other building tasks available that the builder can access. It seems roofing is the lowest priority building task. You can easily circumvent this a bit by just locking a pawn with construction into the room by forbidding any doors leading out.
