As long as you have fertilized eggs, they will hatch given enough time. You don't really need to do anything with them, othan than restrict people from eating them or using them to make meals. I find it easiest to just forbid them.

First you'd need to tame both a male and a female bird of any kind.
If they are both mature then the hen will eventually fertilize the female's eggs, you can follow the egg progress by clicking on the female.
Once the egg(s) have been laid, make sure they are stored inside a building so they will not degrade and destroyed.
They will hatch automatically in time, given your colonist doesnt eat them (make sure you uncheck fertilized eggs in any cooking recipes).

edit: too slow

with any luck after a few seasons you'll be overrun with chickens. oh yeah, you don't need many roosters. may as well eat the excess] as soon as they're big enough

just watch out for predators as they will show up sooner or later... I always find myself suprised by that sneaky fox or wolf killing my chicks

thats not chicken problems , i seen they do that also to any puppy animals

Tho with exeption of desert who happened only twice , mostly becouse desert not has many animal spawns , less preds too , only ones i seen are fenec , and scrabs who are considered small , and never atack on their own

Also most likely ill keep chickens in enclosed area

It's better to keep them outside whenever the weather allows, because they will eat the grass/flowers or eat the gowing haygrass you plant and you don't need to manually feed them
Of course you can do this with a roofless enlcosure as well.

Could not say exactly... I have about 6-8 farm animals and 2000 units of haygrass was hardly enough in the winter and I ended up with starving animals.
During the growing season its not a problem at all, as I was saying they are eating the growing grass and are basicly self sustained.
