How do you survive malaria?
Malaria is a constant event. I have played this game for well over 200 hours (37 on steam) and I don't think I have had a single second where I didn't have someone with malaria. Is there any way to survive this regularly or just avoid it all together?

You can pretty much never see malaria by going to a colder climate for your colony.

You could also setup a custom scenario with Malaria disabled.

As far as surviving it, just make sure to treat them as soon as possible when their timer for treatment runs out. Keep them in bed! Once your tech is high enough, a hospital bed with a vitals monitor would help tremendously. Even just getting them in a regular bed instead of a sleeping spot on the ground will also bring up their rate to develop immunity. (you can see the immunization factor by looking in the 'i' screen)

It's an infection basically so keep them in bed at all times by forcing them with the "Rest until healed" option when direction them to use a bed by right-clicking.

Even with infection I have a pretty high mortality rate. I have doctors with 13+ skill, medical beds and everything and people still die half the time. Does the vitals monitor help that much? If so I may have to try it. Also malaria immunity seems to go up very slowly. Maybe 2% a day

You sure you're keeping them in bed permanently, and not just during treatment?

Vitals Monitors do help, definitely.

The first part of this is vital for most sicknesses. If they're up and about AT ALL, the level of malaria (minor, major, extreme) rises MUCH faster and will likely kill them. If you're using medicine and glitterworld medicine, and if your doctor is a high (8+) level AND RESPONDS QUICKLY when needed (as in, don't let them finish sleeping or whatever, MAKE THEM treat your patients as soon as the next treatment time is available), your chances of surviving - even without a medical bed - are very good.

You have beds set to medical, or actual hospital beds? There is a difference. And yes the vitals monitor helps quite a bit. However, 2% a day sounds very very low. Is there something else wrong with a colonist with it going up that slowly? Perhaps a damaged or missing organ?

The Vital's Monitor is great, it really helps speed up the rate at which someone gets immunity... This extra speed can shave about one necessary treatment off of your recovery time.

Yes they are real hospital beds the only issue is even though best rest is set to highest priority and people feed and treat them they still get up. I even have TVs for then so they don't get up for entertainment

They won't get up if you tell them to "Rest until healed". Click the colonist, right-click the bed.

Yup. Did that too and they still get up

They shouldn't unless your interrupt them with a different order.
Or maybe you have a mod that's interferring with it.

Yeah. I'll have to try to figure out what I'm doing wrong and hopefully at least a couple of my people make it through this case until they get it 2 days later haha

Another thing to consider when treating colonists for illness is to have doctors on different shifts. This means that when sick colonists get hungry in the evening, they get a meal shoved in their face that evening instead of next morning.

Hunger reduces immunity gain. :/

Yeah, I normally manually make my people treat patience at night. My happiness is normally high enough this point in the game that the disturbed sleep thing isn't a huge deal
