how long does it take to build the ship ?
im wondering, since i never came even close building just the first part :P
how long is it supposed tot ake till you build your ship ?

so far my runs take about 5-8 hours before im dieing or running out of stuff to do

also are you supposed to run out of steel so fast ?
apparently it takes thousands of steel and plasteel to build the ship

well, after i was done building my last games colony
there was 0 normal steel left on the map
i dont even know how im supposed to get plasteel ... do veins of that even exist ?

what you do at that point ?
breed animals and collect plants trading for a single piece of steel ?

even if i had the money, it would take years getting any reasonable amounts of either
from those small volume travellers

since you cant transmute any kind of metal yourself and the traders seem to have no interest in wooden sculptures

what gives ?

Stone sculptures/furniture and the orbital traders I would guess. I never get that far. Not so much because I can't but the fun to me is building the base and when I get bored or wiping I restart. I don't think I have ever actually made a ship part, lol.

I think you may be on to a flaw with the end game ;)

whats the point of the ship? And is there a point to having the world map? not like you can expand or raid?

hopefully raiding will be a thing because like Steelwind said it gets very boring when you have everything built. Basically your fastforwarding till something totally random happens. This game is a series of random events looped on infinite.

How can you run out of steel so fast is perhaps the question...

Unless you are playing on small flat maps, steel is limited but not so much.
Or you are building everything (walls) out of steel.

If you can build everything easily, then perhaps you should raise difficulty or stop using mods (99% of them are all about making game easier in every way possible)

As for the original question, some do it in 2 3 years.

Me do it when i grow bored of my colony but dont want to abandon it, usually around 10 years.

Plasteel, you get it by dismantling some weapons and mechanoids, via drop pods and merchants.

on a mountan map, i have found a couple small veins of plasteel

I got past the gold/plasteel bottleneck for the multi-analyser only to discover for the ship itself I needed more plasteel than there was on the map, small amounts of uranium and an AI core.

It's possible to trade for all these - but it takes years, even if traders seem to be coming more frequently for me than for others. I started out with best intentions, but am now considering capturing raiders and going the organ harvesting/slave-selling route. AI core alone is 7,000 silver, FGS! Other option is to gun up and take it from ancient ship crash event (= fighting mechanoids).

Can you dodge the uranium thing by moving cryptosleep pods from ancient ruins or do thery have to be custom-built ship's pods specifically? Again, likely another big mechanoid fight..
Ficelle Aug 18, 2016 @ 5:13am
AI cores, you get them by killing mechanoid ships (not sure if both poison and psychic or only one of them), you need only 1 for your ship.

Pods for ships are special ones.

Plasteel and uranium, by the time im 'ready' for my ship, they have never been a problem.

Money is in the game for a reason, what you cant make or get, you have to buy, but that is why you are making stuff to sell....statues, all that leather, all those stones, slaves, food, wood weapons...

Now, sure it is a grind somewhat, by the time you are there, you have already won anyway.
You can also start fresh (and harder...), nothing forces you to build the ship.

A15 allows deep mining

i take average 2 years to get the ship. its not rushed. so one year = 12 hours of playing.

I was able to build this ship: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=741895068

on a tundra coast. I disasembled my hole base, even turrets and energy for steel. 500 steel per colonist + the other stuff is expensiv.
