Children and freezers
Why do children stand in my freezers drawing chalk on the ground until they die of hypothermia?

Give them some warm clothing. I have never had a kid die in one of my freezers.
Every youngster wants to be the cool kid. Some take it to the extreme.

tiktok challenge.
I've seen people mention this more than a few times on the forums now, but I've never had this occur for any of my kids. I'm not sure if I've just been lucky or what, because I don't dress my kids warm since I like playing in arid wastelands and deserts.
If it's not just sheer happenstance where they end up drawing on the floor, I'd speculate that maybe they have nowhere with a comfortable temperature (i.e. elsewhere is hot, the freezer is cold) and so they don't seek relief as you'd expect.

Would have to look at the maps where it's happening.

Children do, if I recall, have a narrower window of temperature comfort than adults. From what people have said, it sounds like between dangerously cold and dangerously hot they'll pick the former. Even if dangerously hot means above the comfort zone but below any real heat stroke danger.
Yeah and most of the adults are likely better clothed too, so it wouldn't surprise me if the base is set up for a higher temp than a naked or minimally clothed child finds acceptable.

Babies on the other hand are made of some real weird stuff since their temp range is from -30 to 30 in Celsius.
That would explain why parents keep thinking that's the safest place for their apparent baby penguins.

So, some details. I have noticed this happen to me three times since buying Biotech. The first two times were completely unmodded, the third prompted me to make this post and happened with ~100+ mods. The first time it happened was when some refugees were staying at my settlement. It was during winter, but I had fires lit in the main living areas, so there were absolutely rooms they could've gone to that were within comfortable temperatures. They also had kid parkas. I only noticed it because the game warned me of hypothermia. I figured "Oh, they'll leave once their logic checks their health and realizes they're in danger." But they didn't - I had to set up a 'child' area that excluded the freezers. I suggest doing this anyway, so your kids don't wander off to the edge of the map and get eaten by bears, but banning them from the freezer can make it difficult for them to get their own food if you're keeping your meals in there. The second time was with one of my colony's own kids, during summer in a pretty mild region where it was never too hot or too cold outside. Again, they had access to parkas, although they weren't wearing them given that it was summer. The kid lost a finger and a toe to frostbite before I noticed.

As a sidenote, I'm assuming the really wide range of acceptable temperatures for babies has something to do with them being swaddled protecting them from the cold.
My favorite moment is when its too hot so my pawn decides to put their baby in the freezer :)

kids are dumb just like the real thing.
It's related to hauling. They haul some rice or a corpse or whatever into the freezer and then they decide their next task is to draw, so they just start drawing there on the freezer floor. The more often they are hauling into the freezer the more often this will happen. They get hypothermia fast because they are small and have narrower temp thresholds, and the learning tasks can be fairly long and they don't recheck what they should be doing until they are done which is why they wont stop and seek a safe temperature on their own.

Give them a child parka and they should be fine.
I always keep kid parkas available even in warm biomes for this exact reason. This is the Rimworld equivalent of the kids who eat paste.

But rimworld is rough, and survival only for the tough. So time to the food paste with these fools.
