How bomb/blast damage is applied to individual organs/parts?
What is the logic behind this? I couldn't find any info on this in the wiki or elsewhere. For example, lets say mortar shell deals 50 bomb damage in area. One colonist got hit in the blast. How this damage will be applied?

- does it have armour piercing? Does armour affect blast damage at all?
- for how much body parts damage will be applied and will it be divided between them or every part will recieve same 50 damage? What determines what parts will be hit and how much of them?

This could have used much more clear explanation ingame...

Bomb damage spreads out over several seemingly random bodyparts, it checks sharp resistance and has 0.5 stopping power. It does more damage at the center of the blast and less damage further away. The exact bodypart spread mechanic is coded AFAIK so I don't know which parts are selected or how many on average or how many times it can hit the same part on average, the same can be said for many other damage types though like sharp which can also hit multiple bodyparts some percent of the time. I can tell you sometimes a 50 damage blast will hit 2 body parts for 25 damage, sometimes 3 bodyparts for 16.7 damage, sometimes 4 bodyparts for 12.5, and probably more spread than that is probably possible. Hitting an internal part also includes the external part, so a grenade that hits a kidney for 25 and the leg for 25 will also do 25 damage to the torso because it had to go through the torso to hit the kidney. Same with bones.

Anyway your screenshots look like a full unmitigated blast from an HE shell. 12.5x4=50. Often mechanoids block explosive damage because of their inherent sharp resist and the low AP on explosives. I once watched a lone scyther walk through like 5 IED traps in a row without going down. Bomb damage is pretty terrible unless you can manage to hit multiple enemies per blast.

Musical organs too. Especially if you're using it for cover.

Explosions act just like an attack made against each external body part. So they'll hit your torso, left arm, right arm, left leg, right leg, left eye, right eye, head, etc.

Then from there they go through all standard damage formulas. Armor can negate or reduce the damage. Once the damage has gone through all armor layers, damage that is not negated rolls to see if it hits internal organs within that body part, such as a hit to the torso can hit your lungs, heart, and kidneys.

The damage is not divided in any way.

OK, this makes sence, I guess... So, this means that all the external body parts on all targets within the blast zone recieve same damage? WOW, that's much more OP that I originally suspected... I think I read that bomb dmg has armour pierce of 10%, which is pretty low, so armour is hugely important in tanking this, it seems...

yeah explosions are nasty like that

Yes, against lightly armored targets and even mechanoids, a salvo of mortar fire can really tear into them. Anyone in power armor is going to shrug off most of your explosions though.

Oh wait... One important detail. What armour type is actually blocking Bomb damage? There is no "bomb" armour. Sharp? Blunt? Heat?

Yep, they are very deadly, often not that easy get a good hit.

But yeah, against things like infestations while holding a halway grenades can be devastating.

Something's fishy. When HE shell hit pikebot it did not damage ALL the parts. And even the 3 parts it did damage, it was NOT the full 50 damage on all of the parts.
