Medieval weapons only, or weapon restrictions?
Hi. Gunna throw a post up on the offical site as well, but I will post here in case a good modder or one of the devs can catch it.

I think it would be awesome to see some sort of feature that limits what kind of weapons the AI factions can use. And yes, it does occur to me that if I want to, I could just limit my own faction to those weapons. Right. But then I would be fighting with swords and energy shields against enemies with guns and, even though you can be effective at doing that, there are tons of reasons I do not like that idea....

So, Tynan, or anyone on the dev team that can see this, or to anyone out there who's good at modding: can it be done? Is there way to implement a feature that limits the AI factions to certain weapon types? I think it would be cool to see thrown weapons and bows being the only ranged weapons available... it would almost change the entire dynamic of the game, really.

That can be done quite easily through modding tech levels. Problem then is mechanoids, they either would have to be removed (which can be done by several means) or you would have a tough time fighting them.

I would be fine with them being removed. In fact I welcome it. All to enhance that medieval feel. By chance, think you could talk me through making the modifications myself? :D
If you want to mod it yourself I reccomend having a look at the defs, Common sense should help you understand what needs to be understood. I cannot give much advice as most of the mods I make a very small and simple.

That said, changing the tech level of pirates (and others) is simple (just swap industrial for medieval) but may throw errors (due to things like being able to spawn grenadiers, they may still show with grenades).
I might make some kind of medieval battle world mod at some point because it sounds like fun.

Um, you don't necessarily have to remove the mechanoids, just fit them out with medieval weaponry. Scyther with a crossbow! Hello flying fatalities. XD

A dynamic where the raiders just get bored and leave if they can't get through your fortified walls or steal anything might fix that problem. I hate that you have to fight them off. As if the raiders run out of food or the mechs no longer senses any signs of life

The only problem with removing all the higher tech stuff is you'd run out of things to do pretty early. But maybe starting out you and the raiders should just have medieval weapons for awhile instead of everyone using guns from the get-go. Guns become abundant so fast you never really have to use bows at all.
