Berserking is a bit much to be honest.
I understand that some dudes go insane from hardship, but from a gameplay standpoint I got to say it is highly annoying. Kinda reminds me of Dwarf Fortress spiral tantrums but without the fun.

I just find it ridiculous when you survive against all odds against invaders, just to have one of your dudes go beserk because his room was dirty. It's hard as hell to recover from an attack or another form of disaster when you never get any time to clean up and drag away the bodies.

What do you guys think?

Just think you are in the same situation as your colonists. Your hopes are already a bit down simply because of the fact that you landed in a strange world with a few resources. Having to be in a constant fight to survive every single day, having to defend yourself from raiders, etc. We are not talking about military trained people. Most colonists were just normal people, scientists, doctors, teachers...
Idk, it can become annoying indeed, but with a little roleplay it all makes sense in the end. :steamhappy:

A colonist never goes berserk from just one thing. You obviously neglected his needs for quite some time and now you paid the price.

Only exception is when his mom, dad, lover and dog die all at same time. But that's just normal, IRL you'd freak out too if that happened.

Be aware that while selecting the scenario, you can always adjust the breaking point to say, 1% through the scenario editor. This will give you some room to deal with the situation. The game, in itself, is working as intended.

hehe sure, I usually roleplay. And I understand what you mean, but at the same time it could be the other way around. YES WE SURVIVED THE PIRATE ATTACK! HECK YEAH! But no, better go insane because some stuff has been neglected because we under attack :)

BTW, in all fairness, I freely admit that in all my hours of play since alpha 8 or so, I have lost more people to social fights and berserk situation than I did fighting pirates and mechs. LOL :D

Yeah I understand that, it just get horrible annoying when trying to clean up the mess. Having your doctors go insane mid operation starting to choke out the patients. It becomes a never ending spiral, just hoping they might get through the healing phase so I can take care of the colony again.

Just want to make one thing clear, I don't dislike that it happens, but when it happens 5 times in a row when it gets really annoying.

One thing that helps a lot, is beer. Buy it or craft it and force feed it to the critical guys.

An advice to live by - not only in Rimworld :D

I've lost two colonies because of this berserk-state-loop that just never ends. One colonist attacks the other, then it stops for a little while and suddenly the next colonist gets berserk. All because two people died that were their friends. This debuff is so big and combined with other massive debuffs similar to this one, the colonist is basically trapped in an "on-edge" or "berserk" state and by beating or killing his friends, the same thing happens to them if it didn't happen already! And prisoners just go nuts after a while (who is supposed to do his job as a warden when everyone's suffering a mental breakdown??). The massive debuffs stay for a whole season! When the next raid happens, you just know that you've lost. Really really annoying when everything went perfectly up until this point. Super super annoying. I hope Tynan reads and addresses this, as it was never a problem for me before (I've had Rimworld for two years already). Please nerf the mood debuffs and balance them a bit, as there are too many of really massive ones. My people were mostly sanguine and this still happened. :(

I had a man go into a daze because of his pain and he decided to strip down and sit in the freezer. The idiot started getting hypothermia and i had to try arresting him so he wouldn't freeze to death. Instead of allowing himself to be gently herded to the sick bay he went berserk. I ended up having to shoot him with a shotgun to down him to prevent him from killing someone.

I really hate how easily they go beserk. even the normal colonists that dont have nervous or other mood punishing traits go berserk so easily. its kind of insane. i really want the mood penalties to be nerfed. its just not enjoyable. ive had the game since the day it released publicly and ive probably had 5 or 6 runs that all ended because my own damn people went beserk and homocidal. not because of raiders or animal attacks. no. my own ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ colonists. its just too much..
It takes time, but as you play you might have to constantly mess with your workers making them go from actual tasks to hauling and cleaning. I finaly got enough colonists to do everything at once though it's still slow.
