Organ harvesting Vs. slavery(or add some 3rd thing)
Ive gotta ask, which would you guys say is a better usage of prisoners?

While i like the safety of having a few extra organs laying around, its not as profitable as selling the prisoner off to pirates or something, plus my guys always freak the hell out about stealing organs. But it also strains my food supply to keep a large sum of prisoners for slavery.

Honestly, i'd almost perfer a "hard labour" setting so i can get some of my tunnels dug fast.

i don't really use prisoners to make money either way. i just take them if i need organs or nre colonists.
they are also useful to level up your medics...

if i take prisoners i usually just release them. maybe i take an organ before releasing them tho. if i have a prisoner that is an assassin or other bad person type, they will be executed.

Unless your end game I wouldn't do either unless you are really strapped for cash or really need an organ. Unless you have a colony full of phsycos, I don't think taking prisoners is worth it unless you absolutely need to. I don't like risking mental breaks if I don't have to. Never know when your best fighter could go nuts and kill a couple crafters or something. the wrong person having a mental break could be devastating.

Endgame once you have a bunch of beer and a cushy colony you can get over the sadness cause by prisoners from doing stuff to them. At that point do both. If you need organs grab some organs. Keep at least one of each in your freezer and once you have a stash start selling some slaves if that's what your into. I feel like once your colony is kushy enough to deal with the sadness effectively though selling slaves isn't too necesary, the organ harvesting though is always helpful.

Yeah, I suggested an idea to the dev about slave labor where you can make prisoners slaves and perform dumb labor like hauling and cleaning.

Typically with prisoners that I don't plan on recruiting, I like to either sell them, or release them. Depending on the situation of course. I may also harvest just enough organs so they don't die, unless of course I need some important parts.

Keep in mind, that selling, harvesting organs, or executing prisoners give all of your colonists mood debuffs and the harvesting debuff stacks if I remember correctly. So if your colony isn't in such a good mood, I won't try any of those. It won't effect those with traits like psychopath though.

Also, before releasing prisoners I like to give them 2 peg legs and otherwise try to sabotage them in any way. Because they can return in a future raid and they will remember your base layout, including traps! Releasing them does give positive karma with everyone but the pirates who are always hostile.

Ahh prisoners. If i plan on using them as organ harvests, i just amputate a leg which immobilises them and kills any risk of a break out. eventually two organs are harvested, a peg leg installed and a kick out the door :)

I had a cannibal character who kept prisoners as 'stock' for eating over lean times. In the end I realised there was no point keeping them alive for that, when I can just kill them and put them in a freezer. If I don't want to recruit someone, I just leave them to bleed out or die of exposure or whatnot.

Take all that suirvive the raid, harvest any organs you need, amputate any limbs that get infections. Instal 2 peg legs and a denture whether they need them or not, then release them.
Pawns that aren't dead wil return again later, and their state is remebered, so if you do this enough, in every raid you'll see an increasing number of hostile pawns with 2 peg legs, a denture and missing several organs :p
It is quite entertaining. I have often recaptured past guests. Because they are so slow on approach, they are the last to arive, meaning they usualy turn to flee as all the healthy ones fall which means they are still there for the next round. along with any new ones you make from those you take alive ;)
If you want o catch them again, you can just run out, knock them down with fists and drag them back for another stay in my little guest house.
Not that there is much point in doing that. But who doesn't enjoy having old freinds over for dinner? ^.^

Only accept "Psychopathes + Cannibals" colonist then do a remake of The Hills have eyes.

In my case i sell some, and just mass harvest organs from the others, the malus for organ harvesting fade with time anyways..

The penalties for butchering humans and organ harvest are trivial. Just don't recruit any teetotalers if you can avoid it, instal joy wire in your butcher (or get a psychopath & cannibal).

Store up corpses and butcher them in bulk so you can avoid both organ harvest and butchery penalties being in effect at the same time.

Givre your people joy time in the day. Igive all mine 3 hours daily and they have an effectivly constantly mod buff for tons o' joy ^.^

I harvest them to sell organs or use them for my colonists who got damaged organs. then when i can't use them anymore i just set them free. "have fun blind, peg-legged prisoners, BE FREE!"

I built an entire cannibalistic prison, yea I'm a psycho path, So I say harvest all organs they can live without and sell em'

Also does anyone know what happened to tourturing prisoners and corpse cages?

i remember back in alpha 6 i think, the one where the arcitc biome was introduced, I set up in a biome with no growing season, dug a cave and barely had enough food to survive. After a while i got a foothold and began to buid.

Long story my hydroponic bays failed and my guys were starving to death. Waves of dead raiders littered my little cave system. Brainwave, dump all the corpses outside, freeze them and eat them.

Take prisoners harvest 3 organs then butcher for food.

My guys got the hydroponics back online but raiders were so plentiful I never bothered growing another spud for the whole playthrough.

I remember reading that in some past versions there was an option to put prisoners in cages, place the cage outside to scare off potential raids. I wonder if that's going to be put back in, or if a mod is made for it.

was all part of the origional fear mechanic. Just put gibbets down everywhere and scared the ♥♥♥♥ out of prisoners until they joined.

So am I the only one who just wants to take off the arms (I CANT :@) and then set the prisoners free, I want to release one with 2 arms amputated and a 2 peg legs :D. I also wish we could harvest eyes.
