Ofcourse it is =) your the lord and commander, And having people do more specific tasks when you ahve a low ammount of hands is a good idea imo, Better split the tasks at start. Till more come along and you can generalise more.
Also do not be scared to try things, This game is very much trIal and error(Aka you gonna fail start over become better everytime you fail) based. Its better to try stuff and learn from them :)

sometimes it is best to just cut ur losses and start fresh ... or savescum one of the 5 autosaves ;D
And yes, at least one colonist should have cleaning as top or joint top priority.
