Why is my building without a roof?
I built a buidling with walls and floors and a door but for some reason it has NO ROOF; even when I went to the "expand build roof button" and cover the whole room; the workers only built the floor and walls and doors but still no roof. I have tried building even a small 5x5 room and it still does not roof up.

Is this an alpha bug? should i quit playing and come back in 6 months? I am really disappointed as the rest of the game is grest; I love capturing raiders and "operating on them".

They are probably on to build something else. You can select one of your colonists and then right click inside the room and "prioritize building roof" should be an option. click that. Once he/she is inside the room forbid the door so the colonist can't leave. As long as there is no other work to be done in there with a higher priority, the colonist will finish building the roof.

There is a chance if the colonist is tired they may go to sleep on the floor (if it is not their room with a bed in it) so you may want to make sure you are using a colonist with a decently full rest meter. (rest meter located in the needs tab of that colonist)

Roofs certainly work. A fully enclosed area will be covered by a roof, unless you have set a "no roof area" over it.

Sometimes they can be wonky. Mostly I have noticed it on larger rooms and rooms that have a raw wall (against a cave/hill/etc). You can use the "Expand build roof area" zoning tool to force them to recognize it as a roofed area. They are pretty good about building a roof once you point it out to them.

I believe anything over 10x8 Needs a single block wall to act as a pillar or the roof will collasp and or never be added on. It might be 12x10 but I think I'm so used to making sure to leave a pillar inside every 10x8 to be safe... check to make sure that's not your issue

Anything 13 wide or more needs a support in the middle. Basically walls can support a roof up to 6 tiles out. You could make a 12 wide room all the way across the map and it would work fine.

Unless this has changed in A14, but I haven't seen any mention of it.

The limits seem to be the same but the logic that triggers them to actually build the roof (now that they actually have to build them) is a bit wonky.

Yeah, seems to be a bit low on the priority scale. They seem to move on to building other things before building roofs. I'd like to see the game treat that above even deconstructing, which I believe what is now the highest priority for builders.

Yeah my current scenario is a fallout world so roofing is a pretty big priority for me. :p They do respond fairly quickly once you tell them it is a roofed area though which is nice.

i had a roof problem in the middle of my building , tried removing and adding the roof multiple times but didnt work

i built a single wall in the middle and it fixed it

where was you hours ago, I tried to create vault 13. when people died cause of cave ins :( ANOTHER LESSON LEARNED GAME ANOTHER LESSON LEARNED.

Also if u dont got a roof make them yourself with the zone tool, I make half open shelters for the animals, and for the defensive spots I also roofed em so my buddies dont gotta sit in the rain shooting at arse hats :)

You need to manually specify Roof area in Alpha 14.

No you dont, it does it for you. but you can manually also do it. any of my closed off buildings have had automatically build a roof on it also. Took a bit tough ( dunno if it was cause I added walls + floors havent tested singulair walls,

from what I remember, a roof can olny extend 9/8 units from support
