BUT he have said he can generate as many keys he want. so i'm 99.99% sure we get one.
As I recall, the problem with promising Steam keys (and Valve's policy against it) originated when other developers promised Steam keys in exchange for votes on Greenlight.
if you bought the game before 4 November 2014 you will receive a steam key as stated in the faq. I bought my copy long before that date and would be very pissed off if they do not keep their promise because that was one of the reasons I supported them early on.
He's probably going to net a lot of sales from customers who are new to the game or who have held off on buying the game because they want the Steam version.
1. He is kind of crazy/finicky
2. He wants to milk rimworld for all its worth. He can give whatever excuse he wants but I know for a fact he held of putting rimworld on steam for so long because he got 100% profit on his site while steam takes a share. He loves his money, so double charging may not be too far fetched
And you're right. Steam reviews do matter. But if your game doesn't suck, you have nothing g to fear. I know this game is good so why is he so paranoid? Does he plan on abandoning and that's why he is worried about poor reviews? Doesn't make much sense.
He is a great game dev but also a bit of a mad man. If you don't know that then you haven't been following this game for too long. He goes from giving up on the game, to doing a Ste release, to saying he won't be releasing on steam because he is scared of criticism. You can't say his sudden changes aaren't odd.
You're worse than the Bethesda fan boys who say that sky rim had no bugs because it was a good game
I'm all for supporting indie developers, especially one who consistently delivers on their product, and continually improves the game over a long period of time.. I've been a follower of Rimworld since like Alpha 4.. I fully trust in Tynan to deliver a 'finished' product, eventually.. but I will enjoy the early access ride for as long as it continues.
For all the people saying Tynan is all about money, personally having played for so long I understand that money to him is important, sure. He has to support himself and a crew of people working on the game.. however the most important aspect to him is creating a product that people will enjoy.
He takes community suggestions to heart, and implements a lot of what modders/community members suggest. That was the main reason of not implementing a steam version earlier then he did. He was more worried of getting bad reviews while he was away from the game for a few months, while his team ran the game for him while he was busy with other facets of his own life.
Same here I took thr plunge because i was promised a steam key in 2015..I hope he follows through..a bit late, but he better .
This could be the reason he delayed it for so long,Maybe he expects a backlash from steam users for making a promise he cant keep,Anything is possible.
And since taking a break right after release was a bad idea - hell, a lot of people claimed that RimWorld was abandoned during his break - he decided to postpone until next year.
Good call, in my opinion, because since last year there's been an influx of new features and polish into the game, which can only help with the review ratings.
I get that you're anxious about getting a Steam key for the game. I hope that everyone who has already supported the game gets one. Tynan has put some thought and effort into making sure that people can get a Steam key. Good thing too, because manually distributing keys is a pain in the butt. Well, not much, but it would be much easier if there was an automated system, right? :)
