impatient trade caravans
*trade caravan is now leaving*
Bob "no wait, I have one last trade to make!"
Fill "too late, our trade caravan is leaving!"
*Fill is running*
Bob "JUST STOP FOR ONE SECOND I DIDN'T KNOW YOU WERE LEAVING SO SOON!"
Bob is chasing Fill
Fill "byeeeeeeeee"
Bob "but u hav things muh body needs nooooooo!"
*trade caravan has left*

and that's how I missed out on a great deal for medicine and penoxycyline in my naked brutality game on savage with randy random in the boreal forests day 13, now in retrospect there were things I could have done to prevent this, I had to go mine the silver to buy from them but the moment I got back and a tile away from the trader he left and I couldn't catch him, so really I should have mined the silver sooner, but it's still silly that the moment you get the notification it's already too late and that the trader wont wait for a deal. imo at least

all things considered you could have bought 2 medicine, maybe 4... not a big deal, you can buy that much from just random visitors that come every few days. getting 1-2 peno would make no difference.

if you don't want to use traps the other best way is to start with an animal tamer. the goal is to have a body between you and the melee attacker, just don't train release and you will be fine
once on tribal canario I trained like 50+ random animals whatever I could find and everything on the map rats deer turkeys and trained them all to release and follow one tough guy in armor into combat, was in the temperate biome tho so was easy to feed them, tho I did hit a point where there were so many that most of them were constantly starving, so I tamed some carnivores for a change and suddenly there's enough food, Thanos was right! even on hardest difficulty the hardest raids were cough worthy, but I like your idea of just using animals as cannon fodder to tank damage, I never thought of that, thanks for the extra tip, very useful for naked brutality!
I tried that with squirrels once... Got like 20+ of them and wanted to see how they would do in a raid but winter came and feeding them became an issue before I could test it out. >_>

I couldn't be bothered to feed them so they ended up feeding the colonists for Christmas. They made very good squirrel pies.

With all those holes in him, how did the raider see and avoid your deadfall trap?

You DID build a couple of nice spikey traps for raiders to be lured into, didn't you?
