Tunneler Mechanoids should be able to use the Deep Drill.

My current colony map has a decent amount of rocky cliff masses, but many have already been stripped into for minerals or burrowed for mountain base infrastructure.

The Tunneler has been such a huge asset in helping my colony, but now that many of the above ground resources are stripped, it's now up to only the long range mineral scanner and the deep drill machines to get what I need to fuel an industry hungry colony.

After getting the proper tech and finding underground sources of metals though, I'm surprised that the Tunneler can't use the Deep Drill. I know that mechanoids have their own downsides, like being half the skill level a normal pawn could reach, but nonetheless I expected the machine designed primarily to dig for resources to be able to use a deep drill and continue digging.

A mod can easily fix this, but I do hope it's thought about for a general patch of the game (just like how cleaner mechs went from tier 2 to tier 1). While this will increase the value of the Tunneler Mech immensely, I still have to have the respected techs researched and someone to find the minerals located underground. I'm now just wanting to not sacrifice a spare colonist to drill down and obtain those minerals instead of my Tunneler just wandering around aimlessly or being shut off.

i did some post about that. Im agree with you. You cant solo mech run if tunnerlers or operators cant drill. The only way is trade steel like a crazy man. People says, "send them to mine in work mode with another colonist to long range scaned minerals" Yes i can but this is not solo mech run. Im trying to play they gameplay mech that ludeon introduced. 1 guy with a lot of machines. But maybe im wrong an this gameplay is desing for play with 2 - 4 colonist. i Dont know.

Technically you can and realistically you can't.
