How to Make Cloth????????
I'm mid-game (early-mid) and I cannot figure out how the heck to make cotton. I've searched guides and all the production devices in game and I can't figure it out. I'm growing heaps of cotton, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to make a bolt of cotton!!

I have a pool table waiting to be built, but no cloth so it won't start. I have an electric tailor bench. I'm growing cotton but I don't see anywhere that the cotton gets stored. I've searched the in-game info with no luck, and after about 90 minutes I'm asking for help. I'm sure it's something super simple, so please let me know what I'm missing here.

If your plant harvest guy is absolutely balls at his job, he could botch every attempt to harvest and ruin all of the cotton, destroying it all in the process as he picked it.

After doing this for a few days, he should have gained enough skill to actually succeed once in a while, which would make it start showing up.

That could be what happened.

Cotton should instantly become cloth when harvested. Unless you have some mod that adds an intermediary step anyway.
You get cloth when cotton is successfully harvested.
I have no mods, I am growing cotton, and I have no cloth.

Have you harvested the cotton yet?
I just figured it out: I have 2 storage areas, one for refrigerated items and the other for non-perishables. When I was selecting the options for items for each zone, neither allowed cloth.

All the cotton I gathered simply vanished because there was no zone to store it. I guess some other things I produced also vanished. What a weird system where stuff simply vanishes. You'd think it would lay there rotting like those darn corpses do. Kind of frustrating. Now I know where those items went to when I couldn't find them in storage.
When it grows to 100% or if you order it harvested they'll harvest it and wonderfully in this time and place in history it literally just comes off of the plant in cloth form and can be easily stitched together into clothing. No processing required!

It does lay there deteriorating. However, in inclement weather like rain or snow, some materials deteriorate in just a few days.

That's not normal Rimworld game behaviour.
Normally when you harvest a Cotton plant, it drops Cloth to the ground ready for someone to haul it - same as when harvesting Rice or Corn, and it drops the harvested vegetables on the ground in the fields.

You certain you're not using mods? It may be worth using Steam to verify the game cache files.

It actually is under the conditions OP stated... cloth will deteriorate like many other things when not under a roof... that's prolly where his other materials went to; there's surprisingly few things that can lay outside in torrential rain forever ;)
He does observe rotting corpses though so you'd think he'd be seeing all the fields of cloth lying there. Even in constant terrible weather you get a few days to lose full durability I think.
Well heck. I planted cotton, one of my guys harvested half of the cotton (about a dozed tiles) and no cloth showed up anywhere. After a couple days of this I went searching for a solution. Anyway, the problem has gone away. I can't explain it, but I triple checked inventory and couldn't see any cloth. But like I said, the problem is solved now.

I think this is probably the answer. Part of my team was off on a trading mission and I think the guys left behind were missing some skills. I'd say this is the most probable explanation.
