Plant growth during volcanic winter
I haven't actually experienced the event yet, but I know that it's one of the longer lived event (Like the fallout). I was wondering if plants outside will continue to grow (At a reduced rate I'll be it), and how big the event's effect on temperature is.

Plants still grow, at a reduced rate. After the event triggers, check one of your plants during the day to see the growth rate. Temperature is like a 20 or 30 degree difference if I remember from the last one I had.

internal hydroponics, pemmingun, a good storage of long lasting other meals and stuff like rasperries both in frozen and where u can unfrozen (for long life stuff ) can get u through a winter of lower plant growth

Another thing to do is look at the growth rate of outside crops and harvest them when their total growth reaches the growth rate. You'll get less yield, but it's better than trying to wait for them to reach full maturity and they die before their at 100%.

And corn last 3 seasons without a frig, so its always good to keep a room full of extra corn around.

Or just use Sun lamps and heaters to enclose your fields outside.

you can get around that several ways .. store what you need to save for later in a seperate room and seal it after. or make a stockpile and fobid the area after.

is there a restrict option? i know you can take it out of theyre allowed area but that would mean allowing the entire map and thats damn tedious. 2nd i really dont want to block off an area since then i cant put the new stuff in. Like i like to play the medieval mod and my people keep eating my dried meats instead of the stew i make because of the higher nutrition count but im constantly hunting and butchering so i cant just block an area off

You can select the area you want to restrict and the click the "invert" button.

You can restrict items as a group or individually.

have done the volcanic winter the same as I do for toxic fallout. When I create my gardens I leave a gap between each plot and I put one square of wall at the corners of eah plot. When toxic fallout or winter hits then just cover the growing area with a roof and add some sunlamps. That way you don't get reduced growth or your plants dying.

If you are in a hot climate you can pretty much ignore it. On my current colony I look forward to Volcanic Winter as it lowers the temperature to a tolerable level, power usage dips, and no need to worry about sunstroke. Plants grow at about 85%.
