no more zzzt!
alright, so I spent a lot of time getting used to power management to avoid zzzt and I just noticed in scenario editor you can just turn it off. Now my colony where everybody is a creepy breathing neurotic psychopath also doesn't deal with animals going mad (not the packs, just the stupid single animal event where you just find the squirrel) or zzzt!

Yellow Zzzts are pretty rare.

Red Zzzts mean you goofed up somewhere, like leaving an electrical item out in the open to high rain / heat

Yellow zzzts are annoying though. They just don't really add anything to the game to me. Yea, I can keep power sources and batteries seperated by a power switch so I can keep them below half charge by manually checking over and over, sometimes forget about it and get an annoying event that doesn't pause the game. Same reason I disabled the single mad animal event. The event isn't threatening in any way ever, but it's also kind of annoying and disruptive

The most annoying part of that short circuits are the the disproportionate fires after it happens. Sometimes there is a so big area of fire, that i have to laugh. Like a atomic bomb would hit me :-)

Well the explosion is proportional to the amount of power discharged. Try having no more than 3 batteries on one network. Don't have sunlamps attached to a battery network. If you use a combination of wind with your solar, you also need fewer batteries

Zzzt is worthless and annoying and needs to be removed. Its the one thing I can't stand dealing with and it happened a lot... you need power for almost everything and when you can't build 2-3 therm gens youre stuck with batteries. I have gotten to the point of trying to use wind gens but honestly they're at 0mph more than anything and my food starts to go bad because lack of power.

I enjoy the zzzt events, makes power management something more than...just forget it.

Well my entire base was blown to the ground after over 200000 watts was blown on a conduit.
Also ther is a fuse mod that prevents damage when the zzzt event happens.

Zzzt is a sound event, but not with how it currently triggers, red zzzt makes sense, yellow zzzt should happen on exposed wires, or wires in damaged strctures.

that said maybe a electrical grid monitor hud could tell you of a potential problem so you could prevent zzzt before it happens. or install breaker boxes that would mitigate the loss of battery charge during a zzzt event.

Good. That's stupid.

Piss poor attitude.

Nah, there's no way he got 2m watts without cheating or having hundreds of zzzt before and simply ignoring them somehow (not to mention the fact that to store 2m watts from solar panels would require 6m watts in production and there's no way you'd have enough components to keep them running). There's no reason to have that much power so the idea of having that much power blow up in his face entertains me.

I'm pretty sure that's incorrect.

Zzzt can trigger on batteries of any charge level.

No reason? By whose standards? I guess it's up to you to dictate to all of us how we play our game?

You are correct. I've had Zzzt at all battery levels.

If you powered up 2m watts in stored power, you'd need at least 3529 solar panels to generate enough power in the day to last you through the night (assuming you'd use close to your power supply overnight). You'd need at least 2,000 batteries on top of this. That would use 60,464 squares. The largest map has 120,000 squares. You'd cover half of the largest possible sized map just with a power grid. There's literally no reason to do this and there's no ability to do this without cheating since you'd constantly have far more broken down panels that need fixing (using components there's no way somebody could supply, even if though bought the maximum available from every trade ship). Well, I guess a good reason to do this would be to see the biggest zzzt in rimworld history...

You're off by a factor of 10; it was 200,000W, not 2,000,000W
