How far AI willing to dig through mountain to reach you ?

I am now trying to generate a decent map to start another game, hopefully nicely covered by mountain and only need to defend a small area. My previous game was all according to plan except when AI decides to dig through the mountain, attacking my weak spot(all solar panels was so close to mountain). How thick the wall need to be in order to prevent AI from start digging ?
