Free love, cheating debuff
Anyone know why my colonists, who all faithfully follow a religion where 'free love' is promoted, are constantly furious with their partners for cheating on them? It seems like something that should happen - and certainly not the tune of, like, -30 mood forever (bc everyone keeps sleeping with everyone).

Is this intended, or is something weird going on with my mod stack?

That is normal. Free love is unrelated to number of acceptable partners, it just means lovers can do lovin' before marriage and other colonists get an opinion boost about it. If you want to get rid of "cheating" you need to set number of partners to unlimited.

Yeah it's a result of categorization. Free love is kinda considered a social interaction, while monogamy and partner numbers falls more into relationship categories, which overlap to a degree but aren't the same thing.

It seems annoying but if it was tweaked right it gives some fun RP potential. Free love is your culture's way of experiencing everything in life and not being tied down, and then when you find the right person for you you commit to them only. Not too far off from RL and more ancient cultural practices really.

Yeah free love just means they can sleep with whoever and without marriage, still doesn't stop your partner getting mad about you banging someone else.

It's like in real life when a couple gets in an open relationship, in reality only one of them wants the open relationship and the other just wants to keep their partner so they agree to it, but are actually dying on the inside while their partner cucks them.
That dude isn't happy his wife is getting railed by Tyrone while he watches the kids, but he agreed to it because he's a spineless cuck.

Ohhh, okay, I'll try that. I had really envisioned a communal living arrangement, and so far everyone doing exactly what I had hoped has been *terrible* for morale.

@runic - gotcha, that makes sense.

Good luck! Hope it'll get you closer to your envisioned idea.

I mean, open relationships arent all like this. I think this is a popular rhetorical device - popular because it absolutely describes what happens in some of them, and because it reinforces all the possessive notions guys get taught about relationships, thus rewarding the paranoia that underpins those instances when it does occur - but it's not a blanket situation. As with most binary ideas, the vast panoply of human experience doesnt slot well into only two bins. Some folks shouldnt be in open relationships - some folks shouldnt be in any romantic relationship at all.

My colonists should chill the f out, there are mechanoids out there, this is beneath them.

You know, I've had Ideology since release and played for well over a thousand hours with it, and this is when I found out free love is what dictates the approach to pre-marital lovin'. Thanks.
