Mortar hit formula on moving target
I spend some time figuring out how to manually count where to aim with mortar so I can hit accurately everytime , here's what I got and it work through testing :

Enemy range -12 - {(Enemy range-12)/25*3 }
this is the formula for baseline human enemy that travels around 3 tile on dirt per second
for other enemy speed just replace the "3" in this formula with the range they travel per second .

Example :
Enemy human at 112 tiles away
112 -12 -{ (112-12)/25 *3 } = 100 - { (100/25)*3 } = 100 - ( 4*3 ) = 100 -12 = 88

so enemy human 112 tiles away to your mortar , you should aim at 88 tiles away from your mortar of enemy travel pathing

Reference :
Normal pawns travel 3 tiles per sec on dirt
Motar takes 4 sec to fire when it's ready
Motar round travels 25tiles per sec

this formula is assume enemy is consistently moving to your base and Motar is in your base .
for other situation , just remember the reference above.
I am not a math genius so this formula is not perfect but it will get you landing those round pretty close than just eyeballing , artillery is a man's romance ~ cheers !

And all this time I was thinking you hit them by adding more mortars and just saturating the area...

The easy version for people don't want to do the math :
If enemy is 200 tiles away , lead around 50tiles ahead of the target's pathing .
If enemy is around 100 tiles away . lead 25 tiles ahead of target's pathing .
If enemy is 50 tiles away , lead 15 tiles ahead of the target .
if enemy is 25 tiles away , get the ♥♥♥♥ otta your motar pit and fight !!

Had some energy mortars or something mod at one point and that's exactly what I did.
Was even better when it was the "prepare for a while" kind of raid.

Mortar accuracy mod basically does that all for you btw. It even has an attempt to lead target function.

yes thank you and I am using that mod too , but in reality , enemy pathing keeps zig-zagging
or move around obstacle , so any minor change of direction happens , the auto lead function will shoot wayyyy off the target , that's why I prefer doing the math myself .
