Shelves and Base Design
So... shelves are amazing. Being able to have 6 stacks on two tiles is great.
Problem is that if you want your pantries and storage to look good, you'll probably want spaces between those shelves so the pawns actually walk through corridors, reducing it to roughly 4 stacks per 2 tiles+path.

now that's all fine, just make storage bigger and its all good.

Now the problem comes with symmetry. Before everything seemed to fit perfectly with odd numbers in building. make a 15x15 pantry, slap on a corpse room and a kitchen+butchery next to it and you've got an effective way to access food and drop it off.

Now its impossible when trying to do it with shelves without a serious decrease in aesthetics to your pantry. Or at least I haven't found a layout that works and looks pretty.

Honestly, we need 3 tile shelves and corner shelves, or at least a way for them attach to each-other seamlessly around corners and such like fences do.

Maybe even a shelf that looks to be accessible from both sides of a tile. with a midsection on a single tile separating both sides of it.

I dunno, I feel like there should be more focus on letting players make their bases look good too.

You can feed two 1x2 Shelves and one 1x1 Shelf from a single tile. So in a 2x3 Space you can have 2 large and one small shelf, since they can be fed and retracted from diagonally.

15x15 pantry seems awfully excessive, even when you just work with just floor stockpiles.

4x10 is the largest i ever needed, even with an 8+ pawn colony. 4x10 is enough to have a row of 2x10 for veg and a row of 1 (for meat). You don't want your pawns stepping over the food anyway, as it slows them down. 20 spots of 75 items is more than enough nutrition to last you a few days.

If you set up your "pantry" as your kitchen overflow, you can keep all you need for meal prep in the kitchen and only excess is frozen.

Also if you have more than 1500 vegetables and 750 meat, you should have your cook make survival meals or pemmican of the excess.

15x15 is just unnecessarily large, as is a corpse room. Corpses need 2ish days to rot in the open... if your cook doesn't have time to get around to butchering them in 2 days... you are wasting labor that could be used to produce drugs, which is better money than food for trade.

XX=Double Shelf
Y= Single Shelf
P=Pathway
P=Door

XYXXYXXYX
XPXXPXXPX
PPPPPPPPY
XPXXPXXPX
XYXXYXXYX

That set up is 12 double shelves and 7 single shelves. Which equals 93 stacks on a 9x5 space. Compared to the 15x15 Pantry with 225 stacks.

If you draw that set up out...

XYXXYXXYXXYXXYX
XPXXPXXPXXPXXPX
PPPPPPPPPPPPPPY
XPXXPXXPXXPXXPX
XYXXYXXYXXYXXYX

That would be 15x5. With 20 double shelves and 11 single shelves. For a total of 153 stacks.

XYXXYXXYXXYXXYX
XPXXPXXPXXPXXPX
PPPPPPPPPPPPPPY
XPXXPXXPXXPXXPX
XYXXYXXPXXYXXYX
XYXXYXXPXXYXXYX
XPXXPXXPXXPXXPX
PPPPPPPPPPPPPPY
XPXXPXXPXXPXXPX
XYXXYXXPXXYXXYX
XYXXYXXPXXYXXYX
XPXXPXXPXXPXXPX
PPPPPPPPPPPPPPY
XPXXPXXPXXPXXPX
XYXXYXXYXXYXXYX

And drawn out to 15x15 that design would have 60 double shelves and 19 single shelves.

You can basically do this[i.imgur.com]. On the right side is a 15x15 Store room... on the left you can see that you can fit basically an entire "kitchen" area with hydroponics into the same space, while having basically half as many stacks for storage. And if you really needed, you could add more shelves into the Butcher or Kitchen area (but i assume you'd want to put a drug lab to the Butcher)

I am sure there will be mods to change the visual style, but i don't see the purpose in a 3 tile shelf. You can just build 2 tile shelves and link it to a single tile shelf.

I have big 18+ pawn colonies and like to make massive food surpluses along with my massive farms. a 15x15 room is small to me. :winter2019neutralyul:
