Why is "Psychically deaf" a +2?
Quick disclaimer I do not own the Royalty dlc, so if it has something to do with that... :)

If not, I cannot understand why Psychically deaf is a negative? I feel a bit like cheating using it to increase the metabolism, so I can add stronger genes.

Am I missing something or are psychic things a royalty dlc thing?

Yes, Royalty adds a bunch of psychic related things, mainly Psycasters. Sensitive or Hypersensitives have stronger psycasts, faster neural heat dissipation, and a larger psy point pool. Hence being deaf is a 'negative' trait.

Psychically deaf individuals cannot be psycasters and get no mood buffs or debuffs from psychic wave phenomena. Certain psycasts have lesser or no effects on psychically deaf pawns too.

it lowers the impact of both positive and negative psych stuff, without royalty its mostly upsides so it can definitely feel cheaty but thats an oversight on the devs side honestly

Without the Royalty DLC, there is indeed little use for Psychic Sensitivity in my experience. At best it just gives a stronger benefit from psychic soothe events.

With the Royalty DLC, and even more so with the Vanilla Psycasts Expanded mod which require said DLC, Psychic Sensitivity is useful for 'spellcaster' pawns. Without the Mod to expand the spellcasting stuff however, i found going for spellcasting quite underwhelming. And with the mod it easily becomes outright broken(and very awesome!).

If you're not interested in the children aspect of the game Sterile is a quick +1. Alcohol Dependency is another fun +4 (pawns need to drink a beer every couple days or they go into a coma and eventually die. beer is very easy to make and stockpile).

I will not run a colony of drunkards, tyvm!

Lol, fair enough. I was playing around with a solo mechanitor game and uh... ended up with a really broken xenotype.

Ageless, Deathless, Cold Tolerant, Heat Tolerant, Robust, Hyper Aggressive, Sterile, and Alcohol Dependant. He was just a tough old drunken anti-social robo master being taken care of by his metal family.

I was planning on using this kind of xenotype as my own personal Hussar line since beer is less of a pain than the harder drugs like Psychite or Go-Juice dependency. Maybe work in some Melee Damage boosts or recovery genes.

I haven't had any problems from the other depenancies, to be fair.

i do the same but only with psychite dependency.
(i have one with psychDependency/poor artistic so +5metabolism)
its also a "Cure" for chemical fascination pawns.
most of the time i skip beer and weed production and pump everything into psychite, cause i find the buffs of beer and weed counterproductive.
but having ability to spam yayo without addiction is nice.

Psychically deaf pawns without Royalty gain no benefit from Psychic Emanators or Psychic Soothe Pulsars, can not be downed by shock lances or driven berserk by insanity lances, and block the positive or negative effects from psychic drones.

With Royalty they also can not benefit from Psychic Harmonizers and can't use Psychic Readers, in addition to being mostly cut off from the psycasting system and the positive effects of many friendly psycasts.

apparently psychic deafness prevents inserting a mechlink into your brain, so no psychic deaf mechanitors.

But yeah, I just came across the same thing....customizing a xenotype and looking at psychic sensitivity and wondering if there is any way to make that a good thing for me without royalty.
Husker_85 Nov 9, 2022 @ 7:05am
psychicly deaf is definitely a positive trait. Just wait till the first time you get raided by Hussars. Supersoldiers that come running in at you completely unaffected by your casters, unable to be stunned by gunfire, and with reduced pain. They're terrifying.
