Can you get a mechanitor if you didn't start with one?
I started my first game of the dlc with the sanguinophage start which has been fun, but I wanted to try the mechs without starting a new game, can I make one of my guys a mechanitor? or can I find one and capture him?

There should be a ruined mech somewhere on your map, and you should get a quest to go poke it to death. It'll drop an item, and using that item will cause a ship to crash. The ship will have a corpse on board, along with a few mechs. Take a chip out of the corpse's brain, then install it in your chosen colonist's brain. Maybe wash it first.

That's all you've gotta do. That gives the pawn bandwidth and allows you to begin using the initial mech stuff (might need to research the basic mech tech though). From there you just call in mech bosses, kill them, take their hardware, then use that to unlock new tech research.

I got a quest that never expires that lets you get a part to make one of your colonists a mechanitor

Yeah never have that too, only a quest "to make one of your colonists a sanguophage" Lol

cheers for the explanation, I think I have the mech on the map, just not the quest, will go punch it and hope for the best C:

That is really good to know, I saw it on a previous start but didn't go near it. I figured I'd get around to figuring it out but then got bored and did a mechanitor start. I think that the mech doesn't spawn in that one, so you might be limited to one mechanitor unless the link appears in trader inventories.

yeah that might be the case, I think the mechanitor also gets a mood buff for being solo or in a small group, also I don't think having more than one would give much benefit
PS: I made my sanguinophage into a mechanitor, so my vampire is now a nerd
PPS: I wader if you can extract the chip again if your mechanitor dies(more research is required)

So I did all the quest stuff. Not sure how to extract the implant.

Anyone got ideas?

You can also get "Mechanitor Complex" quests, which each have an additional mechlink, though I've only seen one in... maybe 4 rim-years. So probably really rare. The complexes themselves seem a bit barren; the one I did had no loot besides the mechlink, and no enemies (excluding one enemy-summoning console that brought in a single militor).
