That's all you've gotta do. That gives the pawn bandwidth and allows you to begin using the initial mech stuff (might need to research the basic mech tech though). From there you just call in mech bosses, kill them, take their hardware, then use that to unlock new tech research.

That is really good to know, I saw it on a previous start but didn't go near it. I figured I'd get around to figuring it out but then got bored and did a mechanitor start. I think that the mech doesn't spawn in that one, so you might be limited to one mechanitor unless the link appears in trader inventories.
PS: I made my sanguinophage into a mechanitor, so my vampire is now a nerd
PPS: I wader if you can extract the chip again if your mechanitor dies(more research is required)
Anyone got ideas?
