Dealing with Map pollution
I know you can reduce your pollution output from like gens and stuff, but if settling near a polluted map tile can you reduce it somehow? Or is it always going to require a gas mask to live there??

You can tell your colonists to clean it by hand with a clean pollution zone, but they'll get sick over time without a clean space to recover. You can also use buildings which turn polluted tiles back into clean ones. However, all of that creates toxic waste packs. You'll have to find a way to deal with those, or else they'll melt and put the pollution right back onto the ground you just cleaned.

How feasible is this as a tribal start? I need to research electricity for any chance of fighting poilution? And will the clean zones be enough to fight off the toxicity or will my people have to periodically leave the map to not succumb to it even with it? Is staying indoors enough?

As a tribal you can just load up all your toxic waste into a caravan and dump it off your map, You'll lose opinion with any factions that are within 10 tiles (I think) of where you dump it.

Or maybe move with your tribe to a different tile, i can imagine that's what a tribe would do if confronted with to much pollution. But maybe you want play it out as challenge, understandable to.

tribals from a logical sense wouldnt settle down in polluted areas without any reason. for tribals its an ongoing back and forth fighting the pollution if you dont get it off the map somehow but its managable even on high pollution maps - just keep paths short and waste stored inside.

the anima tree is something you might not wanna bother with in high pollution maps

technically speaking pollution causes toxic buildup when moving on it for too long. clear an area and youre good

This is why we need a boats and ships expansion. Go out to the deep water, far enough from land so as not to let your neighbors see, and dump all that toxic waste overboard. I'm sure this is absolutely safe and nothing wrong would ever come of it. Bet that ocean could hold loads of toxic waste.

I got over 300 packs from a quest and could only get rid of them in 25 stacks on droppod caravan could not dump it but the tile ive shot it to increased pollution level by around 1% its sad you cant do anything with these packs not even the toxgas tech items you make them with normal stuff.

There was a great boats mod but it got discontinued and the Creator is now working on a new complete "Vehicle Framework" together with the Vanilla Expanded guy:

Its not really out yet though only closed beta but I guess it will be great one day

I had the boats mod. Was nice when it worked. Have SRTS Expanded right now, since aircraft are good too.

...You know, it'd be great some day in the future if they meshed with Hospitality to run a port, airport or such. I mean, it'd probably be one of the few or even the only one on the entire Godforsaken planet, but that just means you'd have no competition.

Wait, this works? You can just load up a caravan with toxic waste cans, go aways away and just dump it off? Does that lead to any consequences later like toxic weather?

I think it depends on how close it is. The acidic smog is calculated depending on the pollution level of your and surrounding tiles.

As for cleaning pollution you can clear it manually but its very slow and time consuming process but at least Cleansweepers can do it. You can also research pollution pumps that take 200W and clean a spot of pollution every 12 hours iirc. Theres also Polux trees that randomly spawn and consume pollution effectively removing it. So far in my play through I've only had one Polux tree at a time and you can't move them or build on top of their pollution removal radius.

To prevent regular pawns from getting sick they just need to stay in a room that doesn't have any pollution. You can also make simple cloth face masks which give a 40% protection against pollution which helps until you get machining which allows you to make gasmasks.
