Mechanoids wandering.
So, I'm having issue with mechanoids wandering when they don't have anything to craft or haul, and they keep entering the freezer and ruining the temperature.

Is there a way to make the mechs just sit and wait until they have anything to do? Or better yet, turn themselves off while idle for that +1% battery/day?

Or not, how do I mechanoid proof my freezer?

you could restrict them to an area outside the freezer, or switch the control group they're in to recharge, if they can't find a usable charger they will go into dormant mode.

That helps a bit, still not optimal though. Because I have 2 groups of mechs, group 1 is workers, group 2 is combat. I -can- limit the builder and the plants one from getting into the freezer using areas, but my issue is the hauler. I -need- it to go into the freezer to haul so I can't forbid it from going there. And I also can't put it into the combat group, because that group has a different set of orders (to either follow me or shut down). The problem is that if there's nothing else for the hauler to do, the little ♥♥♥♥ will keep going in and out of the freezer in its wandering state.

Do I need to manually turn it on and off every time there's something to haul? that feels bleh.

My point is, they shouldn't wander, opening and closing doors, running into rooms and freezers and dirtying my floors for no reason. Do these bots come with ADHD that they can't simply sit still until they have something to do? XD

Make a group just for the haulers, and they're the only ones in that allowed area.

I did that, and they'll still enter the area for no reason when idle.

Use a double door system (a door, a space and another door) so air can't move as freely. Or put another cooler in so it doesn't matter.

You can restrict the area for only the lifters can enter or use a backup cooler, for ex: the main cooler set to -9 and the backup set to -1. So the backup will only work if its above -1 and will cool the area way faster.

Dude, this backup cooler idea is amazing, thanks.

Double doors is imho the better trick and can easily be done if you attach a small hallway to the entrance of the freezer. Double points if you attached the butcher and the kitchen to that same hallway for optimal efficiency. No need for another cooler.

That said, I wish mechs would just go into power saving mode if they have nothing to do rather than go wandering. Even my computer has power savings mode :steammocking:

Yeah, I also wish the mechs would just idle, I don't even care about them not going into power saving, they should just sit still and wait for stuff to do. I feel like there should be a "idle mech spot", like a pet sleeping spot, but for the mech to sit at when nothing to do.

Yeah I like that idea. Maybe something similar to how beds are assigned. This way whenever they are idle they will return to their idle spot and remain there until needed.

Having this issue now. They really like the freezer.

Bumping this because i hate the wander mode so much why are they playing in my kill box ? Why are they walking into my bedroom at night disturbing my sleep. any micro management is hard to do when doing a real mech run since i am running 20 mech active at once and alot of times the hang up idle time is only going to be 30 sec to 1 min before they move off to a new task . Always 2 coolers right off the bat since adding a new one later can cause alot of loss in product 1 on each end . i personally set mine to 22 and 30 . 30 by the door 22 on the other end and add in a wooden cooler and toggle off auto refuel . This you toggle back on during a solar flare or power outage and then forbid the cool door until over will keep you food fresh .

The solution is pretty counter intuitive, keep them busy.
Overloading pawns with tasks is awful. but overloading work bots seems to be the best way to keep them from doing dumb things.

i agree, the wandering is awful and mech idle spots would be great.
Especially if they each have their own so they can park where most often needed.
I hope some mod maker will have a go at it.
