Where do you find mechanitor colonist?

You can literally start as one.

On your colony map there will be a derelict giant mechanoid. Attack it and destroy it. In the rubble you'll find a device to research, which will unlock a map with the mechanitor implant. Get it and install it in a colonist.

It can also randomly spawn as you're playing. It took a couple years for one of my colonies.

I've started with one but also got a quest telling me of a map site that holds the thingies to make someone a mechanitor.
