What Do You Do With Chunks? What Type of Rocks Do You Prefer?
Do you just create stockpiles and set them aside? I always end up making giant stockpiles, but I think I spend too much time placing them and then when I expand my base, I think I set them too close to my base.

So, if I go too far out, it's a lot of time. If it's close, it's more time later when I try to expand.

Do you create stockpiles and put them together or do you separate them?

Since I'm asking, what rock type do you prefer when picking a spot? I used to go Marble/Granite, but I'm starting to do Marble/Sandstone because of the Sandstone Flooring. Sandstone/Marble seems to be way harder to find on the map though.

Whenever things calm down and mods are updated, I want to find a mod that highlights areas of the world that are Year-Long Summer and Rock Type without me having to select every individual tile.

Rows of rubble are great for slowing down raiders, especially if you put some traps in between the rows

Oh yeah, that's a good idea. I could create a barrier without the use of wood! Nice!

Make blocks out of them and use those to build walls, floor, statues and such stuff.
Download the mod to be able to sell blocks as well.

Marble/Granite is good. But I think Marble/Sandstone is better now, as sandstone is the fastest to build and I think breachers don't take wall hitpoints into account so ganite will not stop them more than sandstone. It feels like they destroyed the use of granite by doing that to the game.

There is a mod that lets you change a lot of map generation parameters.
In that one you can set probability for rock types so there will be more (or only) maps with the rock types you want.
I forgot the name of the mod but you can probably find it by searching.

I like marble / slate because they have a nice contrast, one being white and the other black

You can use them as cover from enemy attacks and also as a "fire wall" with a 2 thick stockpile of them

Early game you can make a long one tile wide stockpile for them facing the direction(s) raiders usually approach from and have a ready made barricade for your pawns to shoot behind. It gives them a pretty decent amount of cover.

Later you should probably be making them into blocks. Fireproof walls for things that need them, marble columns and statues for beauty bonuses, etc, etc.

I usually make a pile somewhere early-game for any that are in the way starting out, then cut them as I need them. I'm a fan of the granite-sandstone aesthetic, and having toughest rock for where that matters and fastest rock for where it doesn't makes sense to me.
