Some mods may change this e.g. the locks mod.
There is a reason i love the lock doors spell.
Currently playing on modded and damm the game is missing so many stuff you expect there to be just in by default.
Like locks or being able to order a pawn to do research.
If you tame animals you can just create a zone where they are allowed to move then asign them to that zone.
In a penned area they will not pass through the pen door/gate.
In a zoned allowed area they will pass through doors/gates, but will stay inside that zoned area.
ity's about a pened zone. And yes they do. I have my pen panel, which effectively highlight the zone I chose, and yet my animals keep roaming everywhere if I let one gate anywhere on their fence. they even enter my base, which has a door.
