Black screen after enabling mods

Alright here's the trouble part.
The main menu ended up on a black screen after I was "testing" on enabling some mods.
Total black screen, tried unsubscribed or removing mod files but no luck.
No buttons were shown, no interactive options.

just go into task manager find rimworld in details and set its affinity to cpu 0 till it loads. then just select all cores again after. its the multithreading their trying to implement. got some bugs in it still. but this lets you get passed it with longer loading times tho.

Verifying file integrity worked for me without removing the vanilla expanded series.

Had Blackscreen, disabled
- Vanilla Cooking Expanded (all 3)
- Vanilla Achievements Expanded
- Vanilla Fishing Expanded + Addon
Now it works again.
Another note: i am not using Rocketman atm, decided to give RimThreaded a try.

I can confirm as well that it is all Vanilla Expanded related mods that will cause a black screen. Removing them one by one down to the core would still cause a black screen.

So I had to remove VFE mods as well ANY mod that requires VFE Core or any of its sub mods to work. Once I did that, launching the game again was smooth.

Basically 92 VFE and VFE Dependent mods were removed from my list.

VE Achievements is broken. Causes black screen. Disable that for now.

It's odd because I was playing with it last night. Had a log error, but the game ran. Next morning I booted up the game, and got a black screen. Didn't change the modlist.

Vanilla Events Expanded or Vanilla Outposts Expanded are an issue. disabling them along with some other vanilla expanded mods fixes the issue for me.
all non vanilla expanded mods arent causing this issue for me so far.
VE Achievements works fine. Maybe its a combination of enabled VE mods?

I reloaded a bunch and loaded my mod list from the saved preset option and it worked. Just have to keep trying.

Ok, i disabled research reinvented and the stepping stones addon and i am back at blackscreen again. after reenabling it i still get blackscreens on start. i guess ill play something else until theres a patch.

restarting the game 3 times did work. i guess its random. maybe a random multi thread issue on startup? idk.

ok - the game did auto disable all mods. thats why it worked.

I know VE isn't doing it in for me as I was able to load all of VE without any issue and even managed to load some other stuff on top like Giltternet and Alpha Animals.

I think it is less about which mods you load and rather how many you load. I usually get the black screen around the 100 mod mark no matter the mods in my list. To confirm I have tried with every single mod that I use in small groups and have found that all of them work until my mod list fills up.

At this point my unqualified opinion is that it is something to due with loading def files as I have noticed my ModsConfig.xml file tends to clear itself around the point the game starts loading def files.

I found a way to play with mods (even VE expanded mods). I'm playing with around a 130 mods (except cooking expanded, but i do have fishing, achievements, etc... and they work well). What i do is:
- I delete modsconfig.xlm
- I launch the game, none of the mods are active
- I quit the game and launch RimPy, i sort my mods and save
- I launch the game and now i can play
If i quit the game, the blackscreen issue will come back, so i have to do the manipulation again (deleting modsconfig etc...).

For me this is working, idk if it will work for everyone

Cooking expanded was my problem too. Also, I had VFE ancients disabling the prisoners tab. Saw a few other posts with the same problem.

After going thru my mods (probably 50-75 or so) and the three that were causing my issues were a royalty patch from VE, Increased Stack Lite and Trait and Backstory. After taking those three out, game booted fine.

Not sure if it's mod conflicts with the game, each other or both.

Gave this a go and it works for me as well, not the most ideal way of playing but at least it works.
