Egg confusion (not laying because unfertilized)
Hi!

I've never actually managed to get a bunch of egg-laying animals tamed. I've once managed to tame an ostrich-similar animal, but it would never lay an egg because she wasn't fertilized. Same thing with a turtle.

I've read on the wiki that there are unfertilized eggs (meat substitute), but how does one go about getting unfertilized eggs? Is it only a few kind of animals that can lay unfertilized eggs, while the rest cannoy lay eggs unless they're fertilized?

Only chickens lay unfertilized eggs, I believe. You can get them from traders or from a random event.

ONLY chickens? That's a bit strange. But thanks for the help!

And even then it's hard to keep them from laying only fertilized eggs.

That's my experience. Seems dumb to have "unfertilized" eggs for any other creature if they can't be laid by the animals. I only buy hens, no roosters. My attempts to get turkeys to lay eggs are all failures. Basically don't get roosters unless you're raising chickens for the meat.

You still want a rooster or two as otherwise your chickens die off long term. But you need three barns. One for chickens. One for roosters. And one for chicks. And to keep a good sorting on them.
