Steal xenogene?
So I have a Sanguophage who is downed and when sending a baseline human rescuing her, I see the "absorb xenogene" option. I try it, and my human instantaneously becomes another Sanguophage.

I understand it is similar to the Sanguophage's "Implant gene" action, but isn't it OP to be able to steal xenogenes on another pawn instantaneously without any kind of tools or machinery?

The cooldown is the limitation. It is like a 2 yr gene cooldown otherwise it kills the carrier

I get that, but the issue here is not transferring the gene, it is to be able to extract it (possibly from an unwilling downed pawn I can let die) without tool. It does not seem very logical lorewise.

It's a physical reaction okay!

So a sanguophage is literally like rimworlds form of vampire, so I would imagine the process is more like ‘infecting’ yourself rather than stealing their genes. Just my take

the 2y cooldown is enough as a limitation IMO, you can't infect a whole colony that easily

+ you have to build deathrest/module + manage you blood stock

The sanguophages have some kind of gene applicator appendage (they have a gene for it). My imagination goes to The Strain type places, its like a gross worm tongue that they can shoot out. When you help a sanguophage they can offer to apply their genes to one of your pawns. Alternatively, if you down one, you can "force" them to apply their genes to one of your pawns. I imagine this is something like prying their mouth open, grabbing their gross worm tongue, and stabbing yourself with it.

I like that explanation, it's properly disgusting :D

Sanguophages don't just show up in the world willynilly, there are two rare events that can bring them to your map, and the ability to down one and steal their xenogerm though that process is one of the main methods of obtaining these powers.
